Hey! We are happy to be on the map of regenerative farms in Canada! https://regenerationcanada.org/en/harvest-acres-farm/

HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT Pretty terrifying that our modern definition of the ecosystem that humans live in and are derived from (the universe), is now considered separate from us [humans]. We are quite possibly nature’s keystone species for a functioning ecosystem. I stole this image from a recent Zach Bush MD presentation but just Google ‘nature definition’, it’s there for everyone to see. ... In the past, I (half) jokingly proposed a 55 acre integrated regenerative farm project for the LeBreton Flats property (Ottawa). It would mimic nature’s templates using a mini-migration pattern with medium & large livestock animals living symbiotically with plants, birds, insects and thriving micro organisms that would provide unrivalled nutrient dense food, jobs and purpose to the immediate neighbourhood. I’ve been thinking lately that actually pursuing projects exactly like this might be a good idea @jimwatsonottawa See more

THE QUEST TO BYPASS NATURE It’s sometimes important to remember that every city in North America has only about 3 days of food available on hand to feed its population. The only thread that is holding the entire current food system together is transport trucks. A steady stream of them is the one and only thing that keeps 99% of the population alive. Julien Cribb (Science & ag reporter) noted recently that there is no city on earth now that has the means to liberate themselve...s from the 100% imported food system - No city can sustain itself because all food is imported. Bill Gates in the recent MIT Technology Review article got attention for saying I think all rich countries should move to 100% synthetic beef. Bill & Melinda Gates currently happen to own the most farmland in the USA https://landreport.com//bill-gates-americas-top-farmland-/. Big pharma has been attempting to squeeze out small farms and control the food industry for decades, so that is not a surprising position from someone invested so heavily in sectors that influence regulations, populations and manage daily life for so many people. It is also note worthy that the Bill & Malinda Gates Foundation was kicked out of India for vaccine issues and important to note that India’s current (underreported) mass protests led by farmers on the heals of 10 000+ farmer suicides in 2020 alone, is a further indication of bizarre current affairs. When Russell Brand and Vandana Shiva turn on convention, there is a chance things have gone awry https://youtu.be/fg0c2x74mgU JUMPING FROM ONE FRYING PAN TO ANOTHER If there is one thing that history teaches us over and over and over again, it is that when we try to avoid or fight nature, it never turns out well. There is no way to predict the infinite ways nature will be sending us unintended health consequences if Gates and things like lab ‘meats’ become standard issue. The real solution would be to immediately pursue regenerative agriculture farming not only outside city limits but in every urban neighbourhood with livestock animals, plants and living soil gardens. That much change might be difficult to imagine now... but remember the 2020 global changes?

Nice little calf born last night. I sometimes use Instagram to help me mark DOB on our calves and match them to their mums. I figure IG people don’t really mind seeing bursts of baby belted galloways once or twice a year Might be a few this week.

EGGS First and foremost this is a huge subject if you dive into It. However, on small local farms, chicken eggs are simple. Unwashed eggs are easy, don’t need electricity, refrigeration and last for 3 months sitting on the farmer’s kitchen counter. It’s a common practice for egg farmers, just as raw milk in the kitchen is common and has been forever to dairy farmers. In 1873 French biologist Louis Pasteur (considered the founder of ‘pasteur’ization and proponent of germ the...ory which translates mainly to milk production) beat out Antoine Bechamp (a bitter rival to Pasteur’s theories) by majority of 1 vote by the free associates of the academy of medicine. About 100 years later (1970’s) the USDA made it law that all eggs must be washed and refrigerated. By contrast, in Europe unwashed and unrefrigerated eggs are today still widely available. For the last 10 000-200 000 years, eggs have not been refrigerated. In the early 1900’s there was a huge pushback against refrigerated eggs partly due to the reduction in quality, which is now widely unknown because supermarket eggs have become the centralized norm. ~ My farm’s most appreciated product is by far our farm fresh eggs, the difference is undeniable ~ Chicken eggs (unwashed) have a natural coating called bloom or cuticle that perfectly protects the egg’s contents from exterior infections and things like salmonella, a modern common food fear. Washing eggs immediately removes the bloom coating and makes the egg susceptible to airborne and waterborne contaminants. It also makes the egg shelf life shrink. Factory farming of eggs (grocery store eggs) actually is the most risky source statistically. Nature always has the most dynamic food safety precautions for human’s protection built into unprocessed food. Nature just doesn’t have the same social media or advertising perception campaign. In the last 10 years science is now understanding nature’s microbiome, virome, genome and has started favouring Bechamp’s theory, however dominant industry lobbyists and government have yet to acknowledge the science, to the detriment of local food producers and public general health. LEATHER AND PLASTIC Leather as an incredible resource and tradable commodity is as old as most of human existence. Our human ancestors, for example; Indigenous, Cree Nation, European ancestors (and hunters today) in Canada, went (go) to great lengths to process animal hides, using all the resources in the animal to process the leather. The leg bones converted to sharpened scrapers to smooth the hide and even the animal brain (and offal) to make cooked soups for perfectly proc...essing the hide... Incredible knowledge and unbelievable labor to process a single hide. The shoes, coats or many other products made this way would be cherished in a way most of us now will never understand. In the very, very recent modern age, the leather trade has become a case study for the power of perception and unfortunately possibly a proving of the further disconnect from nature in our 'progressive' social/culture intelligence. Just in the last decade leather has, (like red meat) been successfully condemned by activist groups like PETA. Oddly, leather and red meat has to some degree been replaced by inferior synthetic products like fake leather (plastic, petroleum) and soy / corn monoculture products, (highly processed monoculture plant or oil based options or bee devastating monoculture alternative milks like almond or soy) which have far further reaching negative effects on the ecosystem than is imaginable by the groups that attempt these one dimensional, surface appealing, virtuous but actually nature destroying agendas. For the first time in the history of humans, animal hides (as from the cows I process) are being unused. A sustainable and durable commodity (leather hides) as valuable as lumber or steel are being thrown out by the truckload everyday. In fact, abattoirs (butchers) are now paying to get rid of hides that used to be a profitable and sustainable byproduct [by sustainable industry I’m referring to small scale local abattoirs]. This is yet another negative cost imposed on the local and far healthier ancestral local farm food option bolstered by nature that is being quickly and quietly decimated by systemic regulation - invisible to the general public but viscerally and abundantly lived by the few still working within natures templates.
