That's a lot of acupuncture and massage appointments! I appreciate all 183 of you!
Great news! Yesterday the restrictions were altered to allow for massage therapy to continue through this lockdown! These changes are effective immediately. To access these appointments, a written prescription from a Medical Doctor, or a written referral from a regulated health professional (https://www.alberta.ca/regulated-health-professions.aspx) is required. ... An existing written prescription is only valid if issued within the last 12 months. An existing written referral is only valid if issued within the last 12 months. A copy of the original written prescription or written referral is acceptable. The written prescription or written referral must be provided prior to receiving treatment. A copy of the written prescription or written referral must be kept in the client’s file. It is my understanding that this requirement is only in place while the lockdown is in effect. After it ends, you should not require this referral. Cool thing - Acupuncturists become regulated health professionals as of Dec.30, 2020. Good thing you know one of those . I'll be researching the legality of me making my own referrals over the next week, so stay tuned! I am taking a Christmas break from Dec.24-Jan.3, so this will apply mainly from Jan.4 to whenever this lockdown ends (hopefully as planned on the 12th). courtesy of Uryelle Dimailig Photography
Massage therapy to be allowed with prescription from doctor or regulated health care professional! https://trib.al/kp4ruw6
Check your inboxes for the latest email that was sent out! I explain why massage isn't permitted to operate right now, and acupuncture is. Or just check it out here... https://mailchi.mp//taking-acupuncture-appointments-129216
Today, @youralberta set new regulations in place in attempt to stop the transmission of COVID-19 in Alberta. As of Sunday, December 13, 2020, massage therapists will not be permitted to operate until at least January 12, 2021. Luckily, acupuncture is a regulated profession and is allowed to continue through this lockdown. How does this affect you? ... if you have an appointment booked this week, it can continue without any changes if you have appointments booked from Dec.13, 2020 - Jan.12, 2021, they must be billed as acupuncture, or will have to be canceled. I will be contacting you to discuss your options (hopefully) this week. I ask for your patience as I'm trying to be as accurate as I can with the information I've been given. Restrictions and requirements may still change and I will do my best to keep you all in the loop! Sending you
Did you know that in most people who have shoulder pain, your good shoulder is just as damaged as your painful shoulder according to MRI results? Results: Abnormal MRI findings were highly prevalent in both shoulders. Only the frequencies of full-thickness tears in the supraspinatus tendon and glenohumeral osteoarthritis were higher (approximately 10%) in the symptomatic shoulder according to the surgeons findings. Agreement between the musculoskeletal radiologist and shoulder surgeon ranged from slight to moderate (0.00-0.51). Conclusion: Most abnormal MRI findings were not different in frequency between symptomatic and asymptomatic shoulders. Clinicians should be aware of the common anatomic findings on MRI when considering diagnostic and treatment planning.

"This is a good pain." I hear this phrase regularly. How can pain be good? Its pain! Think of pain as a way that your body communicates with your brain . Hypersensitive fascial tissue will send out more pain signal to the brain, in hopes of a change to the tissue. At my clinic, this change comes in the form of acupuncture, massage, and RAPID. ... The treatment for this pain, IS pain! Really though. With RAPID, I work at a 7-10/10 on the pain scale. Thats high! Its also necessary. We have to reset the neural network in the area. Think of it like clicking refresh on a web page when its having difficulty loading. All of a sudden the page loads smoothly and is functioning properly. Likewise, all of a sudden your joint can move freely and pleasantly. Make sure to ask for some pain at your next appointment - you wont be disappointed
Sea level vs. See level
In an attempt to soak up the last little bit of summer, Im headed out of the city for a few weeks! Reception might be a little spotty. I might be trying to be more present and not on my phone. Ill probably be eating a lot of ice cream (despite the acupuncturist in me reminding me how horrible it is for my Qi). In short, I might be hard to get a hold of. Check out my online booking website, ensohealthsolutions.janeapp.com, to snag an appointment spot for when I get back. Cant find one? Put your name on the online waitlist!
Inflammation is GOOD!
Did you know that there are MANY different menstrual cup designs? I had only been aware of 2. Ive been using the Diva Cup for the past 5 years. Recently, it became uncomfortable, which was unusual as it had been MUCH more comfortable than tampons or pads. I learned that your uterus can shift positions. I also learned that your vaginal canal shortens during your period (your cervix lowers). And did you know that your uterus can be tilted - making cup usage a not-very-viable o...ption?! I started researching what I could do about it, and was floored at all the shapes, sizes and cups designed for specific conditions such as a tilted uterus. There is also absorbent underwear as an alternative to pads and tampons, but thats a different discussion. I settled on trying the Femmycycle cup and all my problems disappeared. My mind was blown! I wanted to share this with you to encourage you not to settle for a sub-par period experience. There are many things uncomfortable about 2020, lets not let periods be one of them.
Round 2 of blood donation!
I highly recommend this yoga studio for those of you that are self-proclaimed as "yoga-challenged". This is NOT one of those studios that you walk into and feel ashamed that you cant . Youre surrounded by supportive instructors and attendees. They are allowing groups of up to 8 in their yoga classes. If you are comfortable, I highly recommend!
Opened up for today again!
*BOOKED* Some spots for Monday have opened up! Message me or go online to book!
Its official! Weve been approved to open as of June 12 by the Government of Alberta! However, I will not have all my PPE that I need in time for the 12th. As such, the official opening date will remain as June 19th. I want things to run silky smooth and want you all to be safe and will take the time to ensure this.
Well, darlings, weve done a great job! The City of Edmonton has lifted its state of emergency today! Phase 2 reopening was tentatively scheduled for June 19 and it looks like it might really go ahead!... Ive opened the online booking for June 19 onward. This is still subject to change, and cancellations may still occur but this is the most hopeful Ive been since closing up in March. It will be a return to business, but not as usual. There are some changes in protocols. I will be sending out an email in the next few days with more information. I am SO excited to see you all

During my time off, Ive had a lot of time to myself. There have been times that Ive struggled with anger, anxiety, sadness. I know I have a generally great life, but sometimes we need a reminder of how fortunate we are. One fortunate thing Ive found is that Yale is offering a course called "The Science of Well Being" for FREE! If you are also interested in learning how to be happy and re-wire your brain for it, feel free to join me by signing up here: https://www.coursera.org/learn/the-science-of-well-being
I recently applied to the College and Association of Acupuncturists of Alberta for the go-ahead to practice Urgent Care Acupuncture. It was APPROVED! That means I can see my existing patients who fit into any of the following categories... "Severe pain which may otherwise be permanently exacerbated without interim treatment,or where pain may be severely incapacitating and limit self-care or independent living;... Severe addiction issues which may relapse without interim treatment; Mental health/depression which may worsen without interim treatment; Terminal or aggressively progressive conditions where a delay of treatment will have an adverse effect that outweighs the risks to patients." For more information, please read th email that I recently sent to your inboxes.
Since the Government of Alberta released the official relaunch plan, my phone has been blowing up with many of you wanting to book appointments in! 1) Im overwhelmed with gratitude that I mean that much to you all! 2) Massage is technically in stage 2, which there are no dates for yet. 3) Acupuncture may or may not be in stage 1 and may be able to start on May 14 - Im still waiting to hear from my college what they are suggesting and how to proceed. ... I will do my best to keep you updated on what is transpiring. Keep an eye on your emails!
Taking inspiration from @h2h_spa today! We were out for a walk yesterday and saw monumental amounts of trash that were uncovered by the snow melting. If weve got nothing else to do, we may as well help beautify our city!
Ive had quite a few people asking me lately how Ive been feeling with my business shut down. Honestly.... GREAT Ive been working since I was 16. Since then I havent had this much time off...ever. Until I was 23, I had school 5 days a week, 10 months of the year, then working basically the rest of the time. Then I started my business and was working sometimes 2-3 jobs, 12-14 hour days trying to get it off the ground. Sure, Ive had holidays for a week or two, but t...hen would be right back at work the day after getting home. In the last few weeks I havent put more than a few hours into my business. You know what? I dont feel guilty at all. Ive been thoroughly enjoying being with myself and am learning that I do really enjoy my own company. Ive also been realizing that although I do find my work very fulfilling, I need other interests as well. I also havent had any anxiety over the pandemic. None. Zilch. I was worried that I was a weirdo. I feel like all social media is telling me that I should be anxious. If Im not, does it come off as me not caring? Maybe Im naive to the direness of the situation? Maybe Im just lucky to not be immunocompromised? Maybe I have too much faith in the government to protect us? I have a deep calm surrounding the situation and know that we will be OK. Im taking this as a gift. Im giving you the gift of knowing that if you also feel this way, you are not alone. Im also giving you the gift of knowing that if you ARE experiencing anxiety, you are not alone either and give you full permission to wear gloves, masks or do whatever you need to do to feel safe. However, I DO ask that in return, dont judge someone who does not feel the need to do this (unless of course you are ignoring a mandated measure or you should be quarantining yourself and are not). Just be kind. Meanwhile Ill be snuggling my cat (he was purring during this photo even if it doesnt look like it), and going for solitary runs to feel the sunlight on my skin. Also trying different lipsticks - might be a permanent fixture
My local supplier for warmers, Heavenly Hot Packs, has shifted her focus to producing cloth face masks for anyone looking for them to wear when leaving their home. These obviously do not replace medical-grade masks, but does help keep you from potentially spreading illness in droplet form. Shes charging only enough to cover the cost of supplies. Sharing @dr_markiwanickis breakdown of the physiological effects of Elderberry syrup and how they relate to flus and the novel Coronavirus.
Ive given instructions on how my patients should approach booking and what they can do to help my small business.
Ok folks, the time has come. Today will be my last working day. With the State of Emergency being declared in Alberta and the inability to adhere to the 2 meter recommended distancing with my work, closure is the safest option at this moment. Ill be contacting people who are booked within the next week to reschedule/cancel. Ill be taking it week-by-week, adjusting as the situation evolves.... Thank you so much for your support - yall are wonderful.
As I mentioned in my email that I sent out last night, now is the time to stock up on your fruits and veggies (frozen or fresh). What it is NOT the time for is filling yourself with sugar, grease and alcohol. These foods slow the filtration of your blood and lymph. They inhibit the bodys healing abilities. When you are full of these treats, you have no more room for nutrient-rich foods that are going to aid your body in protecting itself. A...s well, alcohol is a depressant, which can be detrimental at times like these. Read the article below to see how alcohol has been linked to susceptibility to pneumonia and acute respiratory stress syndromes. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4590612/ See more
Doing a full sanitization of the clinic. Not one square inch left untouched! *To elaborate* We (Tyler) installed a heater in the back entryway - yay heat! - and thought it would be a good opportunity to give things a good cleansing.
So I share this 1) to inform you that I will be diffusing On Guard essential oil in the clinic for awhile and ... 2) to inform you that most people are using Lysol, Clorox, etc incorrectly. It says on the label that areas treated need to be soaked for ~10 minutes to produce the results they advertise. That means wiping that surface down for 10 minutes. I dont know of anyone who does that. In my research, Ive come to the conclusion that mechanical removal of the bacteria/viruses from the surface is the best option. I use Norwex clothes which are infused with silver and have insane bacteria-removing ability (Ill post a video in the comments).
Teamed up with Mind Your Beeswax, a local company out of Ryley, AB, to offer you a sustainable, compostable, natural alternative to plastic food wrap. Available in large, medium and small variety packages!
After having technical difficulties for some time (years), I can finally offer direct billing services to Green Shield and SSQ for both massage and acupuncture!
I wanted to forward this great post that was shared by Functional Foods. I personally use Norwexs powder detergent on my clothes and sheets.
Those of you who have seen me in the last few weeks may have noticed that my technique has changed a little bit, if not a lot. I recently learned about RAPID, NeuroFascial Reset. Ive been massaging now for 10 years come June (). This is a technique that has made me question most of what I learned in massage school in regards to pain and inflammation. Mostly because it works SO well, and SO quickly (hence the name RAPID). Ill be sending out an email, hopefully this week, o...utlining how it works - so keep a lookout at your inbox. Seriously, Ive stopped migraines already, relieved someones chronic plantar fasciitis, significantly reduced pain caused by a root canal that was done the day before I did RAPID, released chronic low back pain, and got an arthritic joint moving again! Ive only taken the upper body course and am signed up for the lower body in April, and will be taking the Core (abdominal and scar tissue) in 2021. Please note that this technique works at a 7-9 out of 10 pain level. This will most definitely not be a relaxing treatment, but man, does it work!
Simplest and still best advice to prevent spread of illness.
Lucky you, some unlucky person has the flu and you can get in!
Call or text to book!
Anything from mascara to dyes have been known to be sequestered in lymph nodes!
Calling all my 40+-year-olds! I get asked over and over, "Am I in pain because Im getting older? Is this my life now?". In short, NO. It happens because you havent put the work into your body. ... This video is about entrepreneurship, but perfectly outlines the mentality that needs to be adopted from 40 and on in health as well. Stop settling in. Get up an move. Play. Read. Learn new hobbies. "You have a lot more time than you think."
