Happy Hour in Portland Creek, Newfoundland! 20+C. Light wind. Cold beer!

Last week's hike to Long Hill east of Portland Creek and Parsons Pond on Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula got me reminiscing about the IATNL's Indian Loo...kout Trail a little further west, across the Flat Hills and around Portland Creek's Southwest Feeder Gulch to Indian Lookout, towering above Portland Creek Inner and Outer Ponds and the Gulf of St Lawrence beyond. Soon time for another trek there, likely with chainsaw in hand to cut out any windfalls along one or two of the few forested sections of trail. See more

The wind was up on Tuesday, but so were we.... to the highest point on the relatively new Muskrat Falls transmission line across Newfoundland's Great Northern ...Peninsula. From nearby we made a 3-hour round trip hike to the top of Long Hill, at 2400 ft (731 meters) one of the highest summits on the peninsula, which we have often seen from a distance while hiking and snowmobiling along the western edge of the Long Range Mountains. Ftr, the black bear only joined us for part of the trek, and all of the water in the attached photos flows into the Portland Creek watershed ... and out past my back deck. :) See more
