Interesting and worrisome - "In August 2019, 61 per cent of Canadians said the environment should be prioritized over economic growth and jobs. This year, only 49 per cent of Canadians agreed with the statement." https://www.ctvnews.ca//is-this-our-best-chance-to-go-gree
This week, several public-interest groups are calling for a suspension of federal decision-making on radioactive-waste disposal until Canada has stronger policies in place. They say the federal nuclear regulator is poised to rubber-stamp documents that will entrench weak rules for future management of nuclear waste. https://nationalpost.com//more-public-input-needed-on-nucl
Environment North was among the signatories to a letter to Natural Resources Minister Seamus O'Regan, describing Canada's current nuclear waste policy as deficient, and asserting that it must be improved in consultation with the public and Indigenous peoples. https://www.tbnewswatch.com//groups-ask-ottawa-to-press-pa

At their October 15, 2019 Council Meeting, the Council of the local Township of Gillies passed the following resolution. It is our hope that other local councils will follow their example. RESOLUTION 2019/336 WHEREAS the roads infrastructure in Northwestern Ontario is already under strain from heavy truck and vehicle traffic;... AND WHEREAS communities in Northern Ontario do not benefit from the use of Nuclear Power; AND WHEREAS communities that use Nuclear Power should be responsible for storing Nuclear Waste; AND WHEREAS there is a potential safety risk when transporting nuclear waste through highly populated areas; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council for the Township of Gillies urges the Nuclear Waste Management Organization to find storage solutions for nuclear waste at the originating nuclear reactors sites rather than transporting the waste across the province and/or country. Minutes available at this link: https://img1.wsimg.com//0/downloads/October%20Minutes.pdf
