At Enviros, we're big fans of Dr. Bruce Perry and the neurosequential model. Here's a great resource for learning about, and dealing with, COVID-19 Stress, Distress & Trauma through a neurosequential lens. https://www.neurosequential.com/covid-19-resources

The Alberta Ministry of Community and Social Services is collecting input on Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) services. We urge everyone to complete the survey by February to have their voice heard on the need for a wide range of supports and services that FSCD provides to the families of children with disabilities, including counselling, respite care, respite child care, and behavourial and developmental supports. https://www.alberta.ca/family-support-for-children-with-dis

Thanks to everyone who gave to our Calling All Elves holiday campaign. You helped the children, youth and families we work with have a happy and healthy Holiday Season: single parents on AISH whose kids have special needs put presents under the tree, elderly grandparents raising grandchildren with behavioral issues had a special holiday dinner, alumni of the Shunda Creek wilderness addiction treatment program had sober (and COVID-19 safe) activities, tenants at Triveri House ...celebrated their first Holiday Season in their new homes with much needed household items and a community dinner. We could go on, but our message is that you made a big difference in many lives during a very difficult time. Special thanks to @SunridgeYYC for donating gifts, groceries and gift cards to the tenants at Triveri House, an apartment building for previously homeless adults aged 18 to 24, and to @CalgaryStampeders' Corey Mace and all the people who donated to his annual turkey drive. The recipient of the turkey in the photo, an alumni of the Shunda Creek wilderness addiction treatment program, wanted to say thanks personally! Not bad for his first try at cooking at turkey!

Chatim and the rest of the Enviros team at Triveri House would like to thank our friends at Sunridge Shopping Centre for produce and fixings for the Christmas dinner they and the tenants cooked, along with Calgary Stampeders' Corey Mace and his annual turkey drive for putting a bird on the table (thanks from the 25 programs and clients who also got a turkey, Corey). Also, thanks to Sunridge and others for donating everything from sheets and towels to gloves and toques--and $5...0 Sunridge gift cards--to put under the tree for the tenants. Your acts of generosity have made a difference in the lives of the resilient young adults who call Triveri House home. Triveri House opened in November 2020 to provide individual apartments for adults between the ages of 18 and 24 who are experiencing episodic or chronic homelessness. A partnership with Calgary Homeless Foundation, HomeSpace Society and Enviros, and funded by generous partners in the community such as Calbridge Homes, Triveri House gives the tenants a safe place to start their journey to independence.

We have a feeling post-Holiday blues are going to be worse for a lot of people this year. Here's an article from researchers at the University of Alberta on how to cope once the excitement of Christmas is over--even if it's muted excitement this year. #mentalhealth #holidays https://www.folio.ca/how-to-maintain-your-mental-wellness-/

The individuals and families in our FASD and Respite Care programs rely on the community disability services Enviros provides to enhance their day-to-day lives and enable them to reach their potential. We support the Alberta Council of Disability Services (ACDS) and the work they're doing to celebrate, promote and protect community disability service organizations and the children, youth and families that they serve--in a time of economic uncertainty and COVID-19, they need us more than ever. https://acds.ca/AboutCDS.html #QualityCDS #ableg

With Alberta having the third highest rate of spousal violence among Canadian provinces, chances are good that you know someone who is a victim--or that you are a victim yourself. November is Family Violence Prevention Month. If you or someone you know is experiencing family violence, call the number in the photo below or go to this website for more resources: https://www.alberta.ca/family-violence-prevention-resources #wheretoturn #gopurpleab #familyviolence #yyc #yycliving

The team at Triveri House, and the teams at all of our live-in and community support programs, want to send a shout out to Calgary Stampeders defensive line coach Corey Mace for sending 26 birds our way from his annual turkey drive. Corey, once again you've made a huge difference in the lives of children, youth and families who could use a helping hand in the holidays. Thank you. Triveri House opened in November 2020 to provide individual apartments for adults between the ages of 18 and 24 who are experiencing episodic or chronic homelessness. A partnership with Calgary Homeless Foundation, HomeSpace Society and Enviros, and funded by generous partners in the community such as Calbridge Homes, Triveri House gives the tenants a safe place to start the journey from vulnerability to independence.

Check out Hazel Bergen, our CEO, shooting a video for the opening of Triveri House, a partnership with the Calgary Homeless Foundation, HomeSpace Society, Calbridge Homes through the RESOLVEyyc Campaign, the City of Calgary and others. 37 homeless young adults will each have a studio apartment at Triveri House to call their own, and Enviros will work with each of them to provide individualized 24/7 support. Watch for the opening--and the video--in mid-November. We're getting excited to welcome the tenants home.

In technical jargon, we call this type of learning "experiential learning," and we incorporate it in all of our programs. It can be a simple yet powerful way for people to grow and move forward, regardless of age. So take time to play. Today.
