At the beginning of the pandemic we were all stretched really thin; everyone pitched in working long hours and overtime. While it was a difficult time, how everyone stepped up for each other and the greater Ottawa region was something else. I’ve worked here about a year and I continue to see improvements in our lab practices as well as new ...technology to accommodate the increased demands by our community. I've been able to be part of a couple of projects that have really allowed me to grow as an MLT. And being part of EORLA you have the opportunity to work within 16 hospitals in the Champlain region spanning from Barry’s Bay down to Cornwall and up to Hawkesbury. My career is only just beginning but so far I am amazed at how passionate everyone is about science and healthcare. Shift work selfie in our Seegene. At CHEO, we use a Nimbus and a Starlet to extract genes from the COVID-19 virus. We copy the genes and use a thermal cycler (CFX-96) to detect them.
