Morning friends! Stephanie here. Wow. What a summer . We intentionally took a 3-4 week break from social media in order to get off the content hamster wheel as a company and take a break. ... We committed social media suicide some would say. We let it go, we didn’t answer messages, we didn’t hashtag, repost, filter, capture or...anything. We let people worry (even though we explained ), we let people draw their own conclusions, we let people wonder . What was 3-4 weeks turned out to be much more than that. And I have to say - it felt like a huge EXHALE. As a team we reconnected to what mattered, we focused more on our clients, we tackled things that we’re long overdue to handle and we released the pressure. We are a company that believes in health, in truth, in thinking outside the box, reflection and purposefulness. . Social media, as we have come to know it, (fb, Instagram, Twitter, tiktok) is much more different than it once was. It used to be about sharing, but now, it’s framework is much more sinister than that. It is an institutional machine behind the clever veil of independent thought or free speech, family connectedness and ‘news’. Not to mention the toxic display of ‘wellness’ of which really is continued body shaming and perfectionism that we thought we cured but still exists. The hamster wheel of influencer wellness folks who are actually sick but feel stuck having to post and post and post to satisfy your eyes and empty your pockets.. I personally have been reflecting on this and never want to be part of the problem - not myself or any company that I lead. It has been glorious to be offline. Although there are many of you that we have connected with that we miss hearing from ... . It has been 8 years today since we first opened our doors and started working with EPIC humans! ... IT’S ALL IN THE HIPS Hip mobility is crucial for everyone! Whether you’re working 8 hours a day hunched over a desk, spending hours studying in the library, or frequently commuting on long flights, sitting weakens the hip flexor and glute muscles which negatively impact our day to day lives. The hip joint is very complex and made up of over 15 muscles that work together to give you a full range of motion. Hip flexibility and mobility allows us to move more freely and effici...ently. From an athletic perspective, poor hip mobility can cause us to execute exercises incorrectly and put unwanted strain on our back muscles. Improving hip mobility will increase athletic performance and help prevent lower back pain or injuries. Exercises for Runner’s Strength Supplementing running with strength training exercises will not only help you prevent injury, but it will also make you a stronger, faster, and more efficient runner. Runners should focus on targeting the key muscles that will keep them balanced and moving forward. Here is a set of four essential workouts you can incorporate into your routine and how to do them: Anterior Reach:... Step onto right foot, plant it firmly Hinge at your waist lifting your left leg Your left leg and chest should be parallel to the ground Extend your left arm Repeat for 10 reps Repeat on left side Cossack Squat: Stand with your feet in a wide stand and your toes pointing out to the sides Squat to the right, going as low as it feels comfortable. Keep your weight in your heels. Return to the starting position and repeat on the left side Repeat for 8 to 12 reps If you feel comfortable, add a weight for extra challenge Posterior Reach: Start with your kettlebell (or dumbbell) held at your chest Step onto the left foot and bring your right foot back Hinge at waist until chest is parallel to the ground Return to the starting position Repeat for 10 reps Repeat with left foot back Turkish Get-Up: Drive through your right heel and roll to your left elbow Push the floor away with your left palm to sit tall Sweep your left leg under your right leg and behind you until your left hand, left knee, and left foot are in a straight line Sit on your left heel and go into a tall kneel. Keep your gaze straight ahead Windshield wiper your left leg around until you are in a lunge position Get up! Exercises for Low Back Pain Low back pain is a universal human experience - everyone has it at some point! Pain here can be intense and is one of the top causes of missed work. Fortunately, these effective exercises treat lower back pain, and build strength and mobility for the future. Here are four exercises we incorporate in our training for the alleviation of lower back pain:... Cat Cow Stretch: 1. Start on your hands and knees (Cow Pose) 2. Inhale, drop belly towards mat 3. Lift your chin and chest, gaze forward 4. Exhale, drawing your belly to your spine and rounding your back, crown of your head towards the floor (Cat Pose) 5. Inhale coming back to Cow Pose, exhale returning to Cat Pose Repeat 5-20 times Hip Flexor Stretch: 1. Start in a low lunge, spine long and chest out 2. Slightly squeeze your back glutes, engage your core, tailbone tucked under as you drag your hips back. Reach arms behind you, palms up 3. Once back, flex the front foot, toes to the sky, with the front leg straight or slightly bent 4. Return to low lunge position in fluid motion bringing arms overhead Repeat 5-10 times per side. Hip Hinge to Forward Fold: 1. Begin with your knees slightly bent, fingertips in the crease where your thighs connect to hips 2. Intentionally reach the hips back, exhaling as we fold forward 3. Inhale as you lengthen the spine to stand Repeat 5-10 times Rad Roller Rod: 1. In a controlled, fluid movement, roll back and forth and stop on any tight areas.
