We're launching a new program called UPLIFT (Using Practice and Learning to Increase Favourable Thoughts), a mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural therapy program that improves depression, and overall psychological quality of life. Groups of adults with epilepsy, and caregivers of people living with epilepsy, will meet virtually for an hour once a week for 8 weeks. The sessions will review different ways living with epilepsy can affect mental health and teaches valuable cop...ing strategies. Our pilot project found that UPLIFT participants had improved depression, anxiety, and psychological quality of life even a full year after they finished the program. Originally, my seizures were almost all tonic clonic seizures. I noticed that most of them would happen when I was really stressed out, or immediately after. I was eventually referred to Epilepsy Toronto to talk to Rosie, my counsellor. She’s awesome, she’s helped me so much. We’re inspired by our members’ stories every single day. All of our journeys with epilepsy are different, and Epilepsy Toronto is here for you no matter how epilepsy has impacted your life.
