EPO musicians are hard at work preparing for the October 23 Livestreamed event, which will replace our in-person concert. Here, a string quartet (minus one violinist, who took the picture) rehearsal, socially distanced and masked, in a private home. The Music never stops for the EPO, even during a pandemic! The show must go on! How is this possible? Check into our Facebook for creative ways musicians are making music. The EPO members are keeping their skills honed with Zoom meetings with friends, socially distanced live practices together and performances at retirements homes. Let us know if you have a venue and audience in need of some music. We do have some small ensembles with beautiful repertoire at their finger...tips. Some of our musicians are also playing for weddings, church services on line and even baby showers. Here are a few pictures of some musical happenings from past concerts. We would love to hear about your memories and experiences with EPO and how you are enjoying music during this unusual pandemic. Stay tuned for details on our upcoming "Concert" on October 23rd! Here are some pictures of EPO members past to present!

The Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra is proud to announce that it is this year's winner of the Diamond/Platinum Etobicoke Guardian Readers' Choice Award. We would like to thank all readers and classical music lovers for voting for them in the Live Theatre category. Although there is an obvious pause in our popular staged concerts at present due to the pandemic, the EPO wants to assure everyone that we are keeping the spirit alive with small classical ensemble presentations following health and safety guidelines and are planning a virtual concert in the near future. Watch for announcements and updates on our website, Facebook page and newsletter.

Based on the BBC Radio 4 Program, Desert Island Discs, in this weekly (hopefully!) series of videos we will learn (and listen to) what music has inspired members of the EPO over the course of their lives such that it would sustain them in isolation on a desert island. In this week's episode, EPO conductor, Matthew Jones, shares key YouTubes (and moments of his life) with concertmaster, Mark Whale.

While Covid 19 has had a profoundly negative impact on the institution of classical music (and the arts in general) there are some silver linings. I (Mark Whale) have listened to more classical music (in concert settings, both created by myself and friends that I gather with on Zoom for "Youtube Concerts" complete with intervals and a glass of wine, and digitally streamed concerts from the Berlin Phil and Met) than ever before. I had posted an article on the silver linings... (google "How Corona Virus Changed Classical Music for Good. Here Are Nine Powerful Examples) but it was pointed out to me that the article has its shortcomings. Point taken. I maintain, however, that there are silver linings, classical music will survive, but the way it is delivered may change. Whether this will be a "real" changewhether more people will engage more profoundly with classical music, remains to be seen. In the meantime, here's a silver lining. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Syhm27w68no See more
