International women’s day: personally, I only have a few women who really impacted my life. Surprisingly, they are all equestrians. First is my daughter @north.to.alaska her dedication to this sport and to her mare is unbelievable. Seeing her with her mare warms my heart Second is Brittney @brittneyloveschamp the patience she has and her hard work, always having a smile on her face. As far as I remember, I haven’t seen her being mad at all. I will always remember her enco...uraging words to Juana at her first show where Juana forgot her course there is always a next show. Brittney, you are a great role model for those kids, and not only for the kids - me too. The. There is Sidonia, my first instructor for equine massage and Tina from @inhandequinetherapy . They both made a great impact on my love for horses and their well being. Today, I would like to thank these women See more

As some people know, I also have another job. This job took so much time from me within the last year that I almost lost touch of my passion. This week, we are talking about mental health at work and this is so important. I love to spend time with the horses and they give me so much. I came to the realization that I need to spend more time with them. I know how hard it was within the last 12 months. Covid restriction, social distancing, tell me all about it. I have worked crazy hours during this and now that I am thinking about the last year, it makes me ponder on how I can change my life to get the most out of it. I guess it is time to start thinking about my future and make a plan for the first time! #equinemovements #fortheloveofhorses #equinemassage

I am thinking about this for a long time. I know how much fun it is to ride your horses bare back. But do we really think about our horses health why we are doing it? Or are we just doing it for fun? Because we are to lazy to tack up? Or because we don’t have a saddle and the horses needs to be exercised? Actually, it doesn’t matter why we are riding bare back, but we all need to understand what we are doing to our equine partner. We spend a lot of money on fitted saddles or... saddles in general, are making sure that they don’t hurt our horses or restrict them in their movements and ability to work. So, a good saddle has a wide enough channel to not sit on the supraspinous ligament, which is running along the spine of the horse. The saddle is supposed to even the pressure we put on our horses back so they do not get sore. To now understand what we are doing when taking away the saddle, we also include our pelvis into that mix. Just think about your pubis or butt bones. It is a pointy bone in each of your butt cheeks. They are not that far aside. Now we put this on the back of a horse without a saddle. What happens is, we creat two direct pressure spot directly on the supraspinous ligament. Remember? That is the ligament we try to stay off with the saddle and as soon as we are hopping on bareback, we are not only putting pressure on it, the pressure is put in to tiny spots. We cannot even out the pressure on the horses back without a saddle. #equinemovements #horsehealth #barebackriding See more

Found @foundationsofsoundness by Cat Walker FOOD FOR THOUGHT Editing to preface this post with wise words from Manolo Mendez Dressage and Wolbunya Equine:... "Read, think, agree or disagree, do more research, take an anatomy course or read a book...all food for thought!" "FACT: You need to be aware of this information; how you act upon it is entirely up to you." I was holding off sharing this one until I could write a longer piece, but with too many other things to do, the time never arrived. I'm sharing it anyway, in the hope it encourages others to learn and decide how they can apply these things in a way that works for them. The post was inspired by the mare these bones belong to, who demonstrated how late even an average size horse can have open growth plates through the base of the neck. Just shy of her eighth birthday, she had caudal physes still open to varying degrees, all the way from C5-T3. Along with several others in my bone library (and another post in its own right) she also demonstrated how asymmetry and crookedness can impact upon the lasting shape of the bone by warping the plates during closure. Asymmetry breeds further asymmetry. Read the poster however it applies in your world and take what you wish; just keep it civil, please! These statements are not intended to be read any particular way; they are meant to make you think about how you can best preserve your horse's soundness in a way that works for both of you. For the best full length piece out there on the topic of skeletal maturity in horses, please read Dr Bennett's "Ranger" Piece - the link is below, and you will find a wealth of free resources on anatomy on the www.equinestudies.org home page! "All horses of all breeds mature skeletally at the same rate... No horse on earth, of any breed, at any time, is or has ever been mature before the age of six (plus or minus six months)." ~ Dr Deb Bennett, "Ranger" Piece (Timing & Rate of Skeletal Maturity in Horses) www.equinestudies.org/ranger_2008/ranger_piece_2008_pdf1.pdf "Bones don’t move muscles; muscles move bones. And if things are not moving properly, muscles will CHANGE bones." #equinemovements #foundationsofsoundness
