Do you know the differences between hoof cracks? Hoof cracks should be taken seriously as they can tell us alot about our horse. If they are not taken care of, they can progress and we will see other hoof issues arise as dirt, bacteria, fungi and debris become trapped in the crack. This now provides an ideal environment for the progression of White Line Disease to begin, and as we know WLD can be one of the toughest conditions to treat. "...At the end of the day, you can pr...event hoof cracks by cleaning and inspecting your horses feet daily and ensuring he is on a routine trimming and/or shoeing cycle for preventive maintenance. Employ a well-qualified farrier to keep your horses hooves balanced. Make sure your horse receives the proper nutrition he needs to maintain healthy hooves and house him in an environment that is not too wet, dry, or hard. While these steps might sound simple, it is often the most basic things that keep our horses well. An ounce of prevention and a little effort today will yield positive results for your horse later. ..." See more

Wanting to learn more about the causes of equine pastern dermatitis(scratches, mud fever etc.) ? This might be the article for you! "...Equine pastern dermatitis is not a single disease but rather a cutaneous reaction pattern in horses. This dermatitis should be considered a syndrome rather than a diagnosis. Uncovering the underlying causes before treatment is key to minimizing treatment failure and frustration. To achieve a positive therapeutic outcome, treating the predisposing and perpetuating factors is just as important as addressing the primary cause of equine pastern dermatitis. ..." https://www.vetfolio.com//article/equine-pastern-dermatitis

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU TOOK YOUR BRIDLE OR SADDLE APART TO CLEAN IT? Regularly cleaning your equipment can help prevent accidents from happening as well as increase the lifespan of the piece. Depending on the person you may wipe down all your tack after every ride, or you might clean it on occasion. Wiping down your tack after every ride helps to keep the grime and dirt from building up and working its way deeper into that expensive leather.... Dirt, sweat and grime can cause cracks and breakage not to mention damage to the stitching as those tiny granules work their way into the affected area. As a result we are now putting ourselves at risk for an equipment failure. While cleaning your item, it is important to remove as many buckles and overlapping pieces as you can in order to inspect the area for any drying or cracking that may have occurred between now and your last cleaning. This will help you determine if there needs to be a critical repair done prior to the next use and as a result it keeps you safe! Did you forget to put Neatsfoot on that piece the last time you cleaned it ? Have you had an event that may have caused damage to that area? Remember clean tack is safe tack! #tiptuesday #tack #equine #horse #eleather

I find this quote very applicable when evaluating and working on horses. The goal of each session is always to restore motion throughout the body, whether that... is to a shoulder or other visible stucture or to deeper structures such as a visceral organ. Everything is connected so when one thing stops moving we see a chain reaction of change within the body. As more things stop we see more change. So what is not moving on your horse ? #equine #osteopathy #massage #cranialsacral #acupressure
