Are you familiar with the phrase Renting While Black (RWB)? This expression is commonly used to describe the challenges experienced by Black people in the US and throughout Canada including here in the Niagara Region when trying to rent an apartment or home. How many times have you gone to view a rental property in the Niagara Region and knew instantly that the landlord was not going to rent to you? Or have you applied for a rental with all required documentation and more and... were still denied the unit? It is a feeling that you cannot really describe unless you have been in this situation personally. When you experience this type of discrimination it can leave you angry, confused and hurt. We can’t continue to let these occurrences go unchallenged. The Ontario Human Rights Commission exists for this very reason among many others. This week we dropped off some black beauty supplies to our local women’s shelter, Gillians Place. @gilliansplace_sc Special mention to @lazarabeautysupply a local black owned business that sells black beauty products. We were able to purchase some of the donated items from them.

We are proud to announce the launch of our new logo! Ericas Embrace is now Ericas Embrace Support Services! We are dedicated to helping support our Black, Caribbean and African community in the Niagara Region. A big thank you to Chance Mutuku for helping us bring our vision to life!

This was the book that was promoted today during a zoom event in collaboration with @niagaracollege . The idea that the experience and knowledge and input of Black and racialized scholars, who by the way have been doing this work unapologetically for YEARS, can be dismissed as a simple opinion to be ignored is irresponsible and disrespectful.
