I’ve been noticing that checking my phone has become a really terrible habit...and it’s keeping me from being present in my life, and setting a bad example for my kids too! So here is a sticky note I’m putting on my planner + laptop...and maybe I’ll put another on the bathroom mirror just to remind me that I have options that will do more to support me than mindlessly scrolling...and I thought it might be useful for you too. Don’t get me wrong, I quite lik...e social media ... staying in touch with friends, inspiration, seeing what folks are up to, sharing what I’m up to, entertainment... But ... I’ve also noticed that for me, too often it’s just a way of checking out, and that it also causes my comparing mind to get REALLY loud, which then fuels my anxiety... So I’m going to be more intentional and try not to pick up my phone anytime there’s a lull in the day, or when I don’t want to deal with whatever is happening around me, so that this pretty amazing piece of technology supports me instead of drains me. Do you have anything to add to the list? I’d love to hear! Sending you calm and compassion.... Woo hoo!! This photo of joy expresses how I feel to announce that Calm Concussion Recovery is open for enrolment! Calm Concussion Recovery is a 6 module mindfulness audio program to support people in concussion recovery. On our concussion recovery path, therapists, doctors, physios, chiropractors will often suggest that we should try mindfulness....and then, well it usually just gets left at that...... Prior to my most recent concussion in January of 2020 I had been working with individual mindfulness coaching clients to help support them on their concussion recovery paths. At the beginning of my own recovery experience, I began to think about how I could help more people... So... I caught up on the latest research around mindfulness and concussions and designed this audio program to share with others -- because there was nothing like it out there! For me, the thought of going to a 2 hour weekly class filled me with dread (and I *love* this stuff!!) - I'd have to factor in travel (driving is a HUGE cognitive load), the stimulation of learning stuff + being with lots of people, the energy/points/spoons I had for that day, whether that was live or, even worse, on zoom - and I just couldn't. So...I created the Calm Concussion Recovery Program: 6 audio only modules - each has 1 lesson and 1 guided practice (all evidence based + each only about 10 min) A printable healing tracker A workbook And...tomorrow at noon I will be going live on Instagram to answer all your questions about mindfulness and concussion...so...check out the program at the link here https://www.erinmccarthymindfulness.com/calm-concussion-rec & go ahead and drop your Q's below! (P.S. early bird pricing ends on Friday!!) #mindfulness #calmconcussionrecovery #postconcussionsyndrome #postconcussionrehab #concussion #mindfulnesscoach #postconcussionsyndromesucks #lifewithtbi #LoveYourBrain #braininjuryawarenessmonth See more

So many people have recommended both of these books to me and now I finally have them in hand! Looking forward to diving in this weekend... And not sure if I will finish it in time, but the lovely folks at @bend.wellness are having a book club event to discuss Burnout this week...so you might want to check that out!... @ruthridgewayxo @red_circle_art_therapy @dmcguire28

You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf This is one of my favourite Jon Kabat-Zinn quotes. It’s been pretty wavy over here lately...but my practice has been helping me not get too knocked off balance. ... And today I got to share practices with some lovely people at the Government of Canada. Sharing these practices helps me as much as it helps the people I share them with...there’s such comfort in knowing that we are all learning to surf together. As we discussed in the workshop, mindfulness doesn’t mean that there won’t be big waves, or that all of a sudden everything will be all sunshine and light and all our problems will go away. But it does teach us that we don’t always have to get pulled under by those waves...that we don’t have to run away from them...that there’s another way to meet them. And the more we practice, the easier it is to surf when they (inevitably) come along, even if some days that just means keeping our heads above the water. #mindfulselfcompassion #mindfulness #mindfulnesscoach #postconcussionsyndrome #calmconcussionrecovery See more

As @AmishiJha puts it...it’s good to be part of good news! An International Society for Contemplative Research is in the works, thanks to a Mind & Life Institute Think Tank grant. Amishi Jha, Zindel Segal, Linda Carlson, David Vago, Harold Roth, Fadel Zeidan, and Erin McCarthy will use the grant to establish a professional society for researchers with both clinical and cognitive neuroscience and humanities backgrounds.
