Seeing the image of #2 Fire Hall on Central Avenue reminded me of this image from a friend's postcard collection. There were no details on this card other than ...it was from the Soo. My research has determined that this image is taken on Queen Street across from Central Park. The #2 Station is under construction in the centre part of the buildings. That dates the image to 1912. Now, some special event is going. From the clothing, it is a dress up affair in the summer. On August 29th, the Duke of Connaught, Governor General of Canada and third son of Queen Victoria, was in town for a visit. And that is the story that goes with this bit of SSM history. See more
Vimy Ridge Day is a day to commemorate the deaths and casualties of members of the Canadian Corps in the Battle of Vimy Ridge, which took place during First Wor...ld War. We want to recognize the brave men and women from the Algoma District and Sault Ste Marie who put their lives on the line to defend our country. #vimyridgeday2021 #vimyridgeday #saultmuseum #saultstemarie #algoma
Did you know that the Maple Leaf Tartan is one of Canada’s official symbols? It was created in 1964 by David Weiser and designed in anticipation of the 100th a...nniversary of Canada’s Confederation in 1967. Inspired by the colours of the maple leaf through the changing seasons, the tartan’s pattern incorporates the green of summer leaves, the gold of early autumn, the red of the first frost and finally, the brown tones of the fallen leaves before winter. Today, let’s celebrate this symbol of national pride! Have a look at all the Canadian symbols https://www.canada.ca//servic/official-symbols-canada.html
