Yup another year and more auto regulations....March 1 we have new safety standards,here are a few....air bags ,.fluid leaks, too much tint on windows, emergency... and park brake shoes, tire thread depth, rust repair procedures....however the major change is the cost of safeties which is now deregulated and shops can charge any amount. Somebody is going to be taken advantage of for sure. 55.00 was the cost previous. At Ernie's we are setting the price of a standard safety @ 100.00 which i think is fair as our labour rate is 99.00 per hour, and i pay my guys 1 hour labour to do this .Additional work such as removing rear calipers and rotors to inspect park brake items will be additional half hour and removal and replacement of rocker panel covers, one hour plus clips that break. This is only on vehicles so equipped with these items. If we are able to see rust holes without removing covers, then we not remove them and so you will not be charged, but the vehicle will fail .So safeties start @ 100.00 and could go to 150.00 or 250.00 .
