Dear members of the EPP community: I hope you are enjoying this beautiful summer and, hopefully some nice vacation time. Although I have been quiet for several weeks I have being working hard to get support for our program. Your letters, deputations, all the meetings, and every effort you and the kids made have paid off: today we received official confirmation that the TDSB supports and values EPP, and our program at George Syme will continue - in the same terms as in th...e past - at no additional cost for us! (saved for insurance that we always covered). This information is huge taking into consideration the tremendous challenge the TDSB is facing as a result of the government cuts to education and we should be very happy and honoured to receive the endorsement and support of the Board. During the next weeks the teachers are meeting to organize the new curriculum and prepare the lesson plans. Very soon you will be invited to meet with the teachers to examine and discuss our plan for the next term, we are looking forward to having an amazing program! I would like receive your comments about this information.

Dear parents, former parents/students/ grand parents and friends of Escuela Pioneros de la Paz: As you are aware, the Conservative government of Ontario has introduced a budget for the province that incorporates huge funding cuts to education, health, housing and social programs. These cuts will have a tremendous negative impact in children, families and our society as a whole. Escuela Pioneros de la Paz - for over 13 years, have had access to free use of classroo...m space at George Syme Community School as the program is funded under the PSI- Priority School Initiatives of the Toronto District School Board. The Board, as a result of the government plans, is facing a huge funding deficit and cuts to programs and services is in the process. We have just being informed that free Permits through PSI is one of the affected programs facing cuts. This includes Escuela Pioneros de la Paz. We are shocked, and we believe so are you, but instead of feeling defeated, we think this may be a good opportunity for us, teachers, students, parents and families, to be the leaders we feel we are and fight! We are asking everyone to join to defend our program and make sure our kids continue to be part of a program that promotes healthy communities, positive engagements, peace education, anti-racism, social justice and inclusiveness using the Spanish language and the Latin American culture as vehicles - having our children at the centre. The TDSB is having a community consultation process and have set a plan to schedule presentations and accept letters and other forms of parents/student/community involvement with regard to these program cuts. We are calling everyone to meet to strategize how we are going to approach this challenge: deputations, letter writing, phone calls, etc. As the time line is very tight, we are calling to an urgent meeting to organize us as follows: Date: Saturday May 18, 2019 Time: 11:00 AM Place: 86 Clouston Ave (Ana Maria's home), Weston Road north of Eglinton. This is a very important moment to defend our Escuela; please make every effort to attend and bring your children, family and friends as their input is very important. Please confirm if you are attending via an email of phone call at 416-456-6603. In solidarity, EPP collective.
