I find birds to be extraordinary and endlessly beautiful. I can watch them for hours and my heart soars. They are my kind of beautiful. I know people who feel the same way about spiders. Personally, ICK to the spiders. It occurred to me that not everyone was seeing what I was seeing, especially those people who don't like birds (which, to me, is just weird). More importantly, it occurred to me that I have spent far too much time trying to see beautiful in other people's sp...iders (and their darn webs), so to speak, because I most certainly am not seeing what they are seeing. When I focus my intention on what I am looking for (beautiful) instead of reacting to what I am seeing, I am seeing beautiful everywhere; not just in the birds and not only by the river (although not quite yet in the darn spiders). It appears that I am seeing from the inside. It's, you know, kind of weirdly beautiful. Keep seeing beautiful. It is alive and well. The determination to see beautiful is, in and of itself, weird and weirdly beautiful because we are constantly told what is wrong with us, with everyone else and with the world. In the haze of the holidays, I momentarily forgot my beautiful commitment and weird was on fire. I headed back to the river for some inspiration or, at the very least, some inspirational geese. The river was in its usual place and there was still water within the banks (although more of it was froze...n). There were a few geese left but none of them were speaking (or at least not to me). It appeared to look different but I realized that in my determination to see what I was looking for, I had to look differently. I had to fine tune my focus to the beautiful. I had to drop the expectation that it was beauty's responsibility to see me. I made it my responsibility to see beauty. It is everywhere. It is alive and well. Beauty is among us. 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of sugar plums danced in their heads. And Mama in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap, had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap.... When out on the roof there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, tore open the shutter, and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow gave the lustre of midday to objects below, when, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer. With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than eagles, his coursers they came, and he whistled and shouted and called them by name: "Now Dasher! Now Dancer! Now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! On, Cupid! On, Donner and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall! Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!" As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky so up to the house-top the coursers they flew, with the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof the prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my head and was turning around, down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound. He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, and his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot. A bundle of toys he had flung on his back, and he looked like a peddler just opening his pack. His eyes--how they twinkled! His dimples, how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, and the beard on his chin was as white as the snow. The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, and the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath. He had a broad face and a little round belly, that shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.

It happened again, except this time it was me that was the weird. I was walking by the glorious, spectacular river which was maneuvering boulders and icy weather, staying in it's banks, thank you very much. I was maneuvering the pre-paved path and weird thinking, thank you very much. Then there were so many geese that I could not begin to count them all and they all started talking at once. They were honking and flapping and staring at me and they seemed to be saying, "HE...Y!! CRAZY THINKING-LADY!! LOOK UP!" So I looked up and all around and all I could see was beautiful. And then the herd of geese said "That. Do that instead." ESME has aligned with the geese and are going to finish up 2020 by looking for beautiful and we will start by saying: YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL. YOU ARE WEIRDLY BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFULLY WEIRD. We would be the last to argue weird-weird, but there is weird-beautiful to be had.
