To adapt to change we need to expose our brain to novelty. The challenge of learning a new skill, introducing a new routine, or trying a different activity -to name a few- helps create neural pathways in the brain that aid in adapting to the changes in our environment. Creating novelty provides opportunity for flexibility; responding in a different way and increasing problem solving skills. Breaking old patterns is difficult and by doing so you break out of the comfort zone... and create new ways of being. __________ Quote by: Oliver Wendell Holmes __________ #mentalhealth #wellbeing #wellness #novelty #trysomethingnew #breakpatterns #explore #engage #discover #learn #motivation #selfconnection #selfawareness #braindevelopment #adaptivity #change #flexability #counselling #emotionalhealth #therapy #selfgrowth #counsellor #bc #canada #breathe #therapist See more

The way you see the world will depend on the emotions that you are feeling. Emotions can influence your cognitions causing you to seek information in the environment to validate your basis. In other words, your emotions hijack your amygdala, in the emotional part of the brain, and begin to interpret the situation through a certain lens limiting your ability to take different perspectives.... Thus when we feel angry the world can look like a hostile, targeting place. When we feel sad, the world can feel defeating and limiting. When we feel happy, opportunities are endless. When we feel anxious, there must be something to be afraid of and so on... Remember that emotions come and go. That they are not a fact but an experience in that moment. A moment where the body is sharing valuable information about your response to a situation. This information can then let you know how you might want to handle the challenge. You may like to think and repeat to yourself: this is a moment of difficulty I am experiencing and this to shall pass. Mantras and/or phrases can provide as reminders to breathe through the experience and redirect your focus on to helpful thoughts to guide you through the challenge at hand. ________ #wellness #counselling #love #selfexpression #selflove #selfcare #counselingpsychology #anxiety #therapy #positiveselftalk #quote #wellbeing #selfworth #deserving #support #guidance #thoughts #emotions #behaviours #discover #selfawareness #compassion #counsellor #therapist #quotes #mantra
