With the lockdown in place, many of us are giving our skin a break from pollution, over-exposure to sunlight, and makeup. However, we may not be seeing improvements in our skin and in some cases, getting worse with breakouts, discoloration, dryness, and more. This may be due to changes to our lifestyle such as stress or eating too much processed foods, but could also be due to the products we use on our skin. With the increasing awareness of proper skincare on the internet, ...it also comes with the spread of misinformation. This misinformation can cause a person to use the wrong types of products suitable for their skin type and condition, overuse harsh ingredients on their skin, or cause irritation and breakouts by mixing the wrong types of products into their routine. Although our laser services are closed during the lockdown, we are open to provide you the following services until January 31st: 1. FREE video consultation to provide you with a personalized home skincare routine. 2. 10% DISCOUNT on all home skincare routine programs. 3. In-clinic pickup or FREE home delivery of products above $50. What makes our products different? 1. SkinCeuticals and Vivier are FDA-approved. This means that a set of strict standards were taken to assure for quality, efficacy, and safety. Most of the skincare products on the market are NOT FDA-approved. 2. The ingredients and combination of these ingredients have formulations that optimally work on your skin. These claims are backed by credible clinical studies and respected scientific researches. 3. These products are medical-grade, meaning that they provide biological benefits to the skin and reinforces the benefits of laser treatments. If you would like to get your hands on our SkinCeuticals or Vivier products, please feel free to contact us by email or phone. Did you know? 1) 80% of our visible signs of aging are due to factors NOT influenced by genetics. This means that most of our skin concerns can be prevented or corrected by maintaining a proper skincare routine. 2) Skincare products with the exact same ingredients may not be equal. Many companies will use this as a tactic to claim the same formulations at a cheaper cost without providing clinical research as proof of their efficacy.... 3) Many of the skincare products you are using are NOT FDA-approved. A product being FDA-approved means that a set of strict standards and measures were taken to assure for quality, efficacy, and safety. At Essential Life Skin Care Clinic, we provide personalized skincare solutions using FDA-approved products supported by clinical research. Contact us today to get your hands on our SkinCeuticals or Vivier products! #skinceuticals #vivier #skincare #essentiallife

How does laser hair removal work? During laser hair removal, a laser beam passes through the skin to an individual hair follicle. The pigment (colour) of the hair absorbs the laser light which causes an intense heat to occur in the follicle. This intense heat damages the hair follicle inhibiting future hair growth with no harm to the surrounding skin. Laser hair removal is effective for all skin types. 5 reasons to start your Laser Hair Removal now!... 1) 6 sessions spaced about 4 weeks apart is required for each treatment area as Laser Hair Removal (LHR) only works when your hair follicles are in the anagen (growth) phase. If you start in early Fall you will have all of your treatments completed by early Spring. 2) You will need to avoid direct sun exposure in the treated area after your treatments and with the diminished sunlight hours over the Fall/Winter season this is much easier to do. 3) If you wait until your hair starts to turn white LHR will not work. The hair follicle needs to have pigment (colour) in it as it is the pigment that absorbs the laser light causing an intense heat to occur in the follicle and thus damaging the hair follicle and inhibiting future hair growth. Once your hair turns white your only option for permanent hair removal is very painful electrolysis which takes a long time to complete each body area. 4) Not having to shave, tweeze or wax is a huge time saver. Once your key body areas are fully lasered you'll find that you can get ready for work or social outings a lot faster. 5) LHR can be a significant upfront (but one-time) investment to eliminate body hair permanently; but over time it is a true cost saver. Once you consider the cost of non-permanent hair removal treatments, hair removal implements to purchase each week, and add to that the cost of your time over many years you'll see that LHR will save you both time and money. You can also spread out the cost over a few years by staggering the areas being treated; providing you to complete your treatments before your hair loses its pigment and turns white. And as we always do, we will work with you to make your treatment cost as affordable for you as we can. Like many of us, you likely spent the past few months locked away at home and your facial skin care might have taken a back seat, resulting in: 1. Acne breakouts. 2. Skin discoloration or hyperpigmentation becoming more noticeable.... 3. Ingrown hairs, clogged pores, and blackheads caused by the build-up of dead skin cells and hardened sebum. 4. Rough/dry skin caused by environmental or other abrasive factors that degrade the skin's natural moisture barrier. 5. A loss of skin radiance (dull skin appearance) resulting from the depletion of oxygen and blood flow to the skin. As you get ready to re-enter the "new normal" world, let us help you get your skin back to that healthy glow so that you can continue to exude that youthful, happier, confident, no-stressed look. There are many different kinds of acne such as: whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules, or more severe cases like nodules, cysts, and acne conglobata. Acne occurs in your pore which is the opening to your hair follicles. Each hair follicle has a sebaceous (oil) gland which releases oil to keep your skin lubricated. However, acne occurs when too much oil is produced, bacteria gets into your pores, and/or dead skin cells build up and block your pores. Here are 6 tips to hel...p you prevent or reduce the appearance of acne: 1. Use a facial wash that contains salicylic acid. Salicylic acid unclogs pores, keeps them open, and removes debris and oil. 2. A vitamin C serum is a must. Vitamin C will help to prevent photoaging dark spots since much of your acne medicine will make your face more susceptible to sun damage. See if you can combine your vitamin C serum with a skin brightening serum such as arbutin to correct for acne PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation). 3. You will need a reliable spot treatment for the more serious acne pustule breakouts. Benzoyl peroxide will directly kill the bacteria on and within your hair follicles. 4. Acne medication tends to create a buildup of dead skin cells so you will need a gentle exfoliator (NOT a physical scrub). Your best bet is a gentle chemical-based exfoliator such as an AHA/BHA exfoliation cream. 5. Retinol is a must but only if you are not on any prescription medications that conflicts with retinol. Retinol works from the inside out to stimulate cell turnover to reverse skin damage caused by your acne. 6. And finally, don’t leave home without it. A physical sunscreen is a must. Try to get one that is creamy in nature so that it is easier to apply on your acne without pulling too much on your skin. At Essential Life, we offer at-home acne skincare programs that come as a complete treatment kit for ease of use. If you would like to get your hands on any of our Acne Program Kits, please call us at (416) 546-7700 or email us at: [email protected]. Your healthy skin cells are constantly being attacked. In chemistry, a radical is an atom, molecule, or ion that has an unpaired electron that makes the structure unstable. Stable molecules usually comes in a pair so the unpaired radical seeks out an electron to make itself more stable. Radicals take away electrons from our skin which causes oxidative stress and damages our cells leading to complications such as: skin discoloration, sagging skin, wrinkles, eczema, and even c...ancer. Free radicals are EVERYWHERE originating from air pollution, sun rays, and even produced from alcohol and poor nutrition. Antioxidants are natural vitamins and minerals that help protect your skin against radicals by donating electrons to prevent electrons being taken from your skin. At Essential Life, we only recommend antioxidants from well-established companies backed by extensive clinical research. If you would like to get your hands on these products, please call us at (416) 546-7700 or email us at [email protected]

Are you seeing signs of skin irritation or acne breakouts you have not had before? You are not alone! One of the emerging causes of acne breakouts and skin irritation is from wearing a face mask during Covid-19. Masks trap moisture, oil, dirt, and sweat which make it easier for bacteria to grow and for blemishes to appear. The constant rubbing of your mask against your skin makes your skin prone to irritation and breakouts. Please continue to wear your mask to protect yoursel...f and others but try these steps to help alleviate or prevent acne breakouts or skin irritation: 1. If you’re using a one-time mask, replace it whenever you can. If you have a reusable mask, wash it as often as you can. 2. It’s okay to take a breather. You should wear the masks where it is mandatory but where it is legal and safe to do so give your face mask a break. 3. Change your face cleansing routine. Your skin is already irritated from the mask so try to go easy with facial scrubs and consider switching to a gentle cleanser. 4. Dehydration of your skin caused by masks could be the cause of your breakouts or skin sensitivity. Keep your skin hydrated. This might require you to change your night-time routine to add a hydrating serum. 5. Try to limit the usage of makeup. Makeup can clog your pores further leading to longer-term issues such as pimples and acne cysts. We hope these steps will help alleviate or prevent your acne breakouts or skin irritation resulting from the constant use of face masks. Talk to us about special solutions for at-home skin care during Covid-19 as it is likely that we will all be wearing masks for quite some time. To begin, we recommend switching to gentle cleansers such as SkinCeuticals Gentle Cleanser. If you have dehydrated skin, try a product that contains hyaluronic acid such as SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel, which is our body’s natural hydrator that gives your skin intense moisture. Or how about SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel, a mix of botanical extracts that helps calm and soothe irritated skin? Only two ingredients are considered safe to be used in sunscreens and these are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. These ingredients are used to make a type of sunscreen known as physical sunscreens. In contrast, when chemicals such as Oxybenzone and Octinoxate are used as ingredients in sunscreens, such sunscreens are known as chemical sunscreens. Chemical sunscreens cause a number of issues such as skin irritation, harm to marine life, contributes to male infertility, cause toxins to be passed onto babies during pregnancy, and much more.
