There are 2 main types of acids commonly talked about in the esthetics industry:AHA’s (Alpha hydroxy acids) and BHA’s (Beta hydroxy acids). AHAs are water soluble and their job is dissolve the inter-cellular lipids and proteins that hold dead skin cells to each other.They are a bit of a dumb acid as they aren’t specialized and give you a general exfoliation. BHA’s are oil soluble.The BHA you will see most in skincare is salicylic acid.It travels down into the hair follicle and removes the skin cells that can lead to blackheads and breakouts.Both types of acids are very beneficial and you can findthem in most DerMed treatment cleansers, toners and serums.
