You can support access to literacy at Esther Starkman. In 1990 Esther Starkman, our schools name sake created READ IN WEEK, she wanted to find a way to cultivate a greater awareness of the importance of reading and promote the school systems as an important place for the development of lifelong literacy. Fast forward to 2020, READ IN WEEK moved virtually, teachers and staff are forced to be creative in the schools and classrooms and are they are spending out of pocket to m...ake our children's experience in their classroom the best it can be during a not so perfect time! The parent association recently approved the funding of 9 mobile libraires to be created for our Junior High classrooms, these mobile libraries will be implemented immediately and will be a legacy project that our students can use for years to come. With Esther Starkman in mind, the goal is for books to be available to students to take home safely within their cohorts, and that teachers can have autonomy to work with students on the books that they are interested in, that speak to their interests, and to current and contemporary genres and topics. Each mobile library cost approximately $1500 to start, therefore the parent association will be doing a number of fundraisers over the course of the next two years to help raise funding so that we can start 9 more libraires for the Division 2 classrooms, 10 for the Division 1 classrooms, and help supplement more books for the Junior High libraries! We haven’t set a goal for the Winter Plant Sale because you get to choose which classroom you would like to support! For example, if your classroom is raises $1500 you will get a full library, if you raise $200 your teacher is able to purchase 10 20 books for their classroom, so it’s a win no matter what! Also, the top 3 classrooms that raise the most amount will win an awesome classroom prize! It's easy to help, just click the fundraising link below, choose your plants, choose which classroom you wish to support, pay online and safely pick up at the school with contactless curbside pickup!! https://estherstarkman.growingsmilesfundraising.com/home
