The difference.....
I came home from my office yesterday to find that my best friend of the past 8 years had suffocated by getting his head stuck in a medium/large sized Frito-Lay ...chip bag. While I appreciate the sentiment behind condolences and well wishes, they are not the reason for this post and simply not part of my grieving process. I am sharing this in hopes of preventing the same thing happening to other dogs. After a quick Google search, I discovered that this was not the freak accident that I initially thought. Multiple pets suffocate in these types of chips bags every week. A suction effect is created when the pet attempts to breathe inside the bag and only gets tighter as they panic and try to take in more air. It is more than likely that I would not be making this post today if this had ever been mentioned to me. If you ever had the chance to spend time with Hippo then you know what an amazing dog he was. I know after reading this many of my friends and loved ones will want to comment below or contact me. Rather than that, I challenge you to spread this message next time you see a pet owner. We all keep chocolate out of reach because we know the dangers. If I knew death by chip bag was a thing, this would have been prevented. See more
This is my 4 month old puppy. At his second round of puppy shots he was given a puppy pack of heart guard and NEXGARD. They said that it was okay to give it t...o him that day. So, I did. Fast forward a week...my 3 month old pup is having seizures. Foaming at the mouth, shaking, losing control of his bowels and bladder, becoming confused. I can’t help but think his NEXGARD is to blame. All of his bloodwork and all other (EXTENSIVE) tests are clear. Is there a way to detox this med and stop seizures? Also what CBD brands do you recommend???
Cockapoos, cavapoos, maltipoos, puggles, etc etc etc! There are new ones being invented and sold every day for stupid money to buyers who don't care where their... puppy comes from. This is where they came from before being sold. The red box you see can be filled with enough food and water to last 7 days. That means the puppy breeder can stock those, walk away and they won't have to return for a week. A lot of owners turn the lights off in that shed so they don't lose money on electricity. But buyers wont see this. They will see an advert for a cute puppy on DoneDeal or wherever and will convince themselves that somehow this is different. Its not. Irelands' welfare laws allow these breeders to exist and for these puppies to be bought and sold. There is nothing ethical or kind here. Its all just money and the dogs are the product . That is NOT OK.
A photo series of a dog doing the kiss to dismiss. Sophie isn’t kissing out of love, she’s doing it to ask for space. Dogs lick kid’s faces to make them move ...away - and kids almost always do, thereby reinforcing it. So if your dog licks your kids in the face, teach your kid that that means they need space. ((And also, as a general rule, dogs don’t like hugs or kisses - I was taking a picture of Sophie and Rylan came over to be in the picture, giving me this opportunity.)) Check with www.familypaws.com for more info and photos about the Kiss to Dismiss! Question: How can you tell the difference between licking affection and a kiss to dismiss request for space? It’s all about the dog’s movement, or lack thereof. Did the dog approach the kid and then lick the face? Or did the dog get hugged and then lick the face? First scenario is affection, second is kiss to dismiss - the difference is that the human put themselves into a dog’s space in the second one. Most Kisses to Dismiss will happen when the dog is being approached or we come into their space first, usually with the intent to offer them affection, further making us believe the dog’s licking is affection, rather than request for space. Dogs can also lick faces as an appeasement gesture - an overly friendly sign trying to communicate that they mean no harm, but also can show they are feeling insecure in the situation and need more feedback from the person or you.
A coworker used this shampoo on his dogs (shitzus) last night and both dogs were dead within an hour. Turns out there is a pending? possible class action lawsui...t against this brand because dogs (and cats) have died after using it #hartzshampoo #petcare #dogshampoo #fleatreatment edit: not good for cats either http://www.hartzvictims.org/2019/10/

We have some very sad news. Several months ago we took in a Saint Berdoodle puppy (Saint Bernard Poodle cross) We were told he had wobblers at 8 weeks old. Wh...en our President evaluated him she knew immediately it was not wobblers. The poor guy couldn't walk far without falling and swayed as he walked. An amazing foster family stepped up knowing that this may not end in a fairy tale ending. That didn't scare them from loving him with all they had. We began doing testing and found that he had all kinds of congenital deformities. All of his joints were deformed, his legs and tendons and everything that connects were deformed. We got a second opinion which said the same. We scheduled a consult with a Board Certified Radiologist we adore and he consulted with a Veterinarian at University of Penn that specialized in Pediatric Genetics. They recommended we run some specialized testing and labs to rule out some things. We proceeded on with testing and sadly we were left with no humane options. After consulting all these vets, there was not a miracle procedure that could be done to give him a normal quality of life. He would be a very large dog and as he would grow his pain would also intensify. We will go to the ends of the earth for an animal, but the kindest thing for sweet Teddy was to set him free from his failing body. This decision broke our hearts as we so badly wanted to fix him. Well that day he was set free was today. Teddy was sent to the rainbow bridge in the arms of his loving foster family. We cannot thank his family enough for the selfless act of caring for a hospice animal. He knew all the good things in life because of them. This puppy named Teddy is again the face of greenfieldpuppies and lancasterpuppies and keystonepuppies (all brokerage sites). We called the breeder to tell him what happened and that sadly the rest of the litter atleast some of them would have deformities down the line and he laughed and said "I sold 8. One out of 9 isn't bad." We save on average 10 puppy mill dogs a week. Every one of them come with one of the above brokerage sites folders. No reputable breeder will use a brokerage site. No reputable breeder would continue breeding these lines with all these issues. Every time you purchase a dog from these places it enables them. These places WONT stop until people stop buying. It is supply and demand. Educate everyone you know. Do not purchase a dog from these places or you are contributing to this problem and the reason puppies like Teddy have no chance. Please keep Teddys foster family in your thoughts. It is absolutely horrible when we have to set a puppy free. Teddy deserved better.... he didn't ask to be bred like this. We are so sorry Teddy that we couldn't save you. We are sorry that because of poor genetics we were limited in our options. You are loved. You mattered and you impacted so many lives in those short few months. Thank you to his foster for taking him knowing it could end in heart break. And thank you to our amazing vets who helped us gift him the gift of no more pain. There is no pain like having to put a beautiful puppy down. This hit all of us so hard. The next time you buy a puppy off greenfieldpuppies or lancasterpuppies we hope you remember his sweet face.
My new litmus test for everyone.
Dogs are truly special creatures.
