Just made a fresh batch of cuticle oils! Fingers and nails need some love in the fall chill. There’s lavender with heather flower in a fractionated coconut oil base and a beautiful Rose Lemon with rose buds in a grape seed and jojoba oil base. $10 in the salon!

Hydration VS moisture. Are the words as interchangeable as we think? . More often than not I am constantly seeing oil and butter based products being advertised as hydrating which is actually very misleading and incorrect. So let’s clear things up! . Hydrators are not oils. Hydrators are products designed to increase the water content of the skin. They are humectant based products such as Hyaluronic acid, glycerine, aloe and honey, to name a few. Some hydrators, like Hyalur...onic acid, grab water out of the air and pull it into your skin for a surge of hydration. Others help to add some much needed water to the skin. . Using a hydrating formula alone will feel lovely for the first few hours. Your skin will be plump and dewy and fresh. But by midday you will notice your skin is feeling a bit like a desert. This is because water has a characteristic of evaporating. And it’s evaporating right out of your skin. How does one keep water in the skin, you ask?? . Here is where a moisturizer comes into play. Moisturizers are designed to help reduce transepidermal water loss. Water loss!! They help form a protective barrier on the skin to keep all that glorious hydration from evaporating into thin air. They nourish the skin on a deeper level with lipids and vitamins and minerals. They help to retain whatever water is in the skin at the time of application. Using one without a hydrator results in flaky, dry skin midday and the need to apply more moisture as there is little water in your skin to keep it plump and happy . Hydrators and moisturizers are designed to work together to give your skin everything it needs. Our body is predominantly made up of water and drinking water is the first step to glowing skin. But we need some extra help from outside sources. Layering your hydrators and moisturizers is key to achieving this goal we all strive towards. . Step 1: apply a water/ humectant based serum or lotion onto damp skin (see what I did there? More water!) Step 2: Apply a nice emollient moisturizer designed for your skin type on top. It’s that easy! You’re ready to go See more
