I was messing around in the studio one night, blasting old school punk rock and drawing geometric vector banners, when I got inspired to slap this little bastard together. Observant viewers will note that the broken guitar neck is from a Les Paul Jr. (in TV Yellow, of course) as played by Johnny Thunders, Mick Jones, Paul Westerburg, and the inimitable Gordie Lazy Legs Lewis of Teenage Head. Back in the late 70’s, Juniors were the perfect punk rock machine - cheap, simple, and nearly indestructible.
With all the craziness south of the border, the death of the great Ed Benguiat sort of slipped under the radar a few weeks back. When I started in graphic design, Ed’s typefaces and influence were absolutely everywhere. Then, his exuberant serifs and swashes kind of went out of style for a while, but I’m happy to see them making a comeback.

Loving this cover illustration to Christopher Paul Curtis' new YA novel. http://www.goodillustration.com/blog/?p=10166
