This was Mahatma Gandhi's favourite bhajan and many bhajans in India use the same tune. This is a lovely rendition.

So here it goes. You asked, and we listened! We had lots of requests for a Sea Shanty, so we figured we’d put our own twist on the trend. #seashanty

Check this out from the Canadian Virtual Choir, Sing The North: It is less than one week until the first rehearsal for AURORA - the inaugural project of SING THE NORTH. We hope you will enjoy meeting composer Nicholas Fairbank and hearing excerpts from his stunning choral depiction of the Northern Lights. Our AURORA project will take place over three Saturdays, featuring live rehearsals with me, Daniel Taylor, and Nicholas Fairbank on Zoom. All singers will receive a project... pack when they register. This contains sound files to all the parts, notes from composer Nicholas Fairbank, information about how to meet up with us online, and your free downloadable PDF Aurora score. Following our rehearsals and workshop with Nick, we will offer you vocal and technical support during the week as are working on your video submissions. We will then look forward to singing with you from home at our Live Global Concert - the YouTube Live broadcast premiere of our AURORA video - and of course our cast party, which will take place around the end of October. Registration fee is only $20 for all singers. We hope you will join us! Dan Forrest’s Jubilate Deo brings to life the global aspect of the traditional Psalm 100 text, O be joyful in the Lord, all ye lands, by setting it in seven different languages and drawing from a wide spectrum of musical influences. Each movement combines some characteristics of its language-group’s musical culture with the composer’s own musical language. Movements include liturgical Latin, intertwined Hebrew and Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Zulu, Spanish, Song of the Earth (...untexted), and a closing movement combining several of these languages with English. The result is a stunning global celebration of joy, as all the earth sings as one, omnis terra, jubilate! Scored for mixed choir with soprano and alto soli and optional treble choir, with three instrumentations available (details below). Performance time 45-50 minutes. Commissioned and premiered by Henry Leck and the Indianapolis Children’s Choirs, April 2016. "Jubilate Deo" by composer Dan Forrest is an eight-movement work for choir and orchestra that presents the universal desire of creation to praise its maker. Uniting cultures and languages, Forrest has masterfully woven the text together in a truly global format. https://youtu.be/BVyCzNg6o0o

Opera Sustenida presents an exciting online event by musicians Stephanie DeCiantis (spinto soprano), Nicole Whitney Dubinsky (coloratura soprano), Daniella Theresia (mezzo-soprano) and Suzanne Yeo (pianist): "Divas for Hire!!" https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/divas-for-hire-tickets-11580014 LIVESTREAM on Saturday, September 5th at 7:30pm (EST) REPLAY available on Sunday, September 6th (TBD)... Divas for Hire!! is a one-of-a-kind event that incorporates engaging virtual performances with audience participation. Using pre-recorded videos, we’ll present a selection of beloved opera solos and ensembles, including a set of mis-cast arias, where we’ll challenge voice-type and gender norms (for example, one of my "mis-cast" choices is the famous tenor aria Nessun dorma). All of our videos (yes, even the ensembles!) will feature engaging virtual staging techniques created by our very own Stephanie DeCiantis. And if you were wondering about the audience participation part, here’s where that comes in: As an audience member, you’ll get to vote* on which pieces you'd like us to perform for the final broadcast. You can even pre-submit questions for our live Q&A session (Saturday's event only)! But don’t delay - all votes must be submitted by August 22nd in order to be counted! I hope you'll join us for "Divas for Hire!!" Because how often do you get to tell a diva what to do? --
