Making the switch As everyone knows, all good stories start on the farm .... Yesterday I had to swap out the heating elements for our main animal watering bowl. Normally this wouldn’t be too painful other than it was a shitty beautiful fall day with not a snowflake sun shining down on me and everything . You couldn’t ask for a drier day .... I’d never had to pull this particular watering bowl apart so I had to figure out what parts could stay and what had to come apart to make the switch. During this process, there were the usual sad happy moments of realizing more things had to come apart to get the new elements in. At one point though, I was struggling to make things fit. It soon dawned on me that I was still working on the watering bowl as if I’d had more things in the way than what I did . Sometimes when we’re stuck, we just need to take a little step back, see what’s going on and if things have changed in the situation, how we should be changing with it . Happy weekend everyone! #maui #mauistateofmind #perspective #makesthedifference #changeyourquestionschangeyourlife #farm #farmlife #farmer #wisdom #thethingsidoformyanimals #horse #horses #cows #ohmeohmy

Fasting and why (aside from weight loss) There’s nothing really fast about it at the very least the first time you do it when you’re body is screaming at you wondering what made you decide to kill it all of a sudden. In all seriousness it’s one of my favourite disciplines that I’ve developed over the last 3 years. When I first started fasting, I absolutely HATED it! 24 hours without food? Are you kidding me!? It wasn’t until I’d come back from my DTS with YWAM in 2017, th...at I felt like I was fully able to engage in this practice and grow a heart for it. I started off with a 3 day fast that over the course of a year I developed the fortitude to be able to go 40 days without any nourishment aside from water! It’s definitely not something I’d recommend without significant preparation both before hand and after the fact, but if you’re up for it give it a go. 3 Reasons Why 1: Discipline. No is considered to be significantly harder for us to say or do than yes. Chocolate cake, why don’t I help myself to the whole thing . A bag of chips. Finished that ! The ability to say no to something that is essential to your survival though, builds in the discipline to say no to other things that would seek to distract you or I from our goals . 2:Mental Clarity. My friends who watched go through my 40 day water fast might argue (fairly) about how someone can be mentally clear after going that long without food, but once you’ve actually embraced fasting as a discipline and are no longer concerned what your body thinks, your mind can actually focus on the important things. My 40 day water fast was probably, if not the most, then one of my top 3 visionary periods of my life. The extra 3 hours a day (yes approximately 3 hours of your day are used up in food prep, eating, and clean-up) was such a bonus to consider some bigger questions about my future that I may not have had the time to invest in at that moment had I not fasted. 3: Removal of inefficient cells. This is a really cool thing that happens when you fast even if it’s only for 16 hours, but your body decides to purge its cells that aren’t operating at top capacity. Continued below

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast -Bob Swagger in Shooter I come from the microwave generation. If it takes longer or more work than what’s required to heat a pi...zza pop, the question of whether or not it’s worth it nearly automatically gets raised, but slow cooking tastes SOOOOOO much BETTER! Sure you can have a microwaved steak, or you can chuck it in a marinade overnight, cook it nice and slow on the BBQ or skillet (we won’t judge your preference here) and eat that baby up! What I really want to get at though, is that the best things take a process. Sometimes a process that takes significantly longer than we would like or appreciate, but it’s usually worth it if our mindset is on our ultimate prize and not the hiccups. In a year that’s been marked by bumps along the way, I can readily attest to being tempted by quick fixes, but this little reminder last night that slow is smooth, and smooth is fast is a bit of a guide to not make any knee jerk reactions. I know who I am. I know what I’m called to and some of the harder choices that have to be made to get to the vision in mind. Hopefully this encourages you to make some of those harder choices too! #maui #mauistateofmind #whenseptemberends #I’llstillbepressingon #mindset #focus #future #vision #making #2020 #reality
