We are very saddened to say that Mark Delmage, our friend, fellow volunteer, teacher, pilot, mentor and familiar face of the Evans Theatre, died on Friday, January 8. Mark was part of the Brandon Film Festival family for nearly 50 years and led from the front, taught by the side, and pushed us from behind. Both as a teacher at St Johns Ravenscourt and as a leader in the 82nd Air Squadron (Air Cadets), he was dedicated to making better men and women of the youth in his charge.... He had no children of his own but there are many who have been taught as if they were. Mark was an extremely dedicated projectionist, and while his heart beat with the tempo of the old film projectors, he embraced the new technology. He was key to helping the Evans enter the new digital era. We miss him greatly, and when there is time in the future for us to get together safely and remember him, we will. Until then, stay home, stay safe, and we’ll see you at the movies.
Much as we'd love to, we can't show BLOOD QUANTUM at the Evans for Halloween. But you CAN see it via streaming sites. https://evanstheatre.ca/movie/blood-quantum/... [Edited to correct an error]
Hello, fans of film. We miss you, our audience at the Evans Theatre. It’s been a tough year and we still have a ways to go. We, the volunteers of the Brandon Film Festival, realize that going to the movies, right now, in the middle of a pandemic, is not a priority. As much as we miss going to the movies with you and enjoying the experience of the cinema, as much as it pains us to say it, we just can’t screen films at the Evans this fall.... Keep the faith, Evans fans. We want to gather in the dark with a bag of popcorn and lose ourselves in a great story told by great film-makers too. However Here’s how you can still enjoy new ground-breaking film right now: Visit the website of the Toronto International Film Festival https://www.tiff.net/about-tiff-20 . The Brandon Film Festival is part of Film Circuit, TIFF’S national outreach program, and some of the films youyes, you!can watch this year could have been part of our fall film series. Please consider buying a digital ticket to one or more of their screenings to show your support for Canadian film. The deadline is coming up fast but you can virtually attend parts of this year’s festival. Imagine: going to TIFF without the flight, the hotel, and the quarantine! We do plan to be back in 2021! In the meantime.wear a mask, wash your hands, stay at home, and we’ll see you at the movies. Soon. With gratitude, the volunteers of the Brandon Film Festival/Evans Theatre
Attention volunteers: The Evans meeting scheduled for April 4th has been postponed. We're also considering when and whether to hold our AGM, and we'll keep in touch regarding that.
In order to help stop the spread of COVID-19, the volunteers of the Evans Theatre film programme have taken the difficult decision to cancel the Spring movie series. We thank our dedicated volunteers and our faithful audience for a great year so far, and we look forward to seeing you all in September 2020, when we re-launch with new films. See you at the movies.
