I’m Back! I was finally able to get a replacement pedal for my Helix pedal that died on me. Long story short, I know have a Mooer GE150 and it gets the job done! I really missed consistently being creative. So this morning I laid down a quick rhythm and one take solo. It felt good to hear reverb and overdrive on my guitar again!... It’s good to be at it again!

It’s been a while. It is not for lack of want or lack of time. It is mostly the lack of a functioning recording device. My trusty HX Stomp died on me last week. With there not being many fix or replacement options in Uganda, I have been left unable to play/record my electric guitar.... Hopefully I can find something good to get back to writing because it really has been a stress release for me. I miss being creative and really wanting to start a bigger project once I can get it back up and running. Day 28 - I was trying to find abit of groove on this one. Found somewhat of a theme for the solo and stuck to it as best I could. I have realized that I am not necessarily getting better at creating but getting better and not being so scared. Scared to suck or fear of being judged for not playing a flawless solo behind my head. Trying over and over to come up with a better part. Instead hitting record and seeing what happens. Being a creative is partly skill and a bigger pa...rt confidence. Being confident enough to put your stuff out there as it is. There will always be room for improvement. Day 27 - I have been finding these little creative bursts in the morning have been getting easier. I have found somewhat of groove and go into a default write something mode. Plugged in some drums on the ipad, then had each kid come into the room at one point. Hit record and played the first riff. Then jammed out the rhythm part and recorded it. Is it a hit record...no, but do I like it as a concept for something bigger, Heck ya. At some point I’d love to go back into my li...brary of jams and work on the ideas more. Day 26 - As I sat down to write my post about todays video I realised I didn’t film one this morning... My three kids demanded my attention for the majority of the morning and I didn’t even have a chance to set anything up. So while Samuel was working on school work in my office, and I was sitting there to keep him from getting distracted, I got distracted and decided to set everything up and bust out a quick something. Clearly Samuel eventually joined in on the distraction p...arty and I explained to him my process. Having a 6 year old be shocked that you wrote a song in 10 minutes as a real ego boost! So as I said to Samuel; I started with a tempo, then a drum beat. Then I recorded the main guitar part and looped it. Added one bar of background parts and looped those. That all made the foundation for a solo or melody. Played with some ideas before recording, hit record and there it was. Day 25 - Took a rest yesterday and came back with a very chill lil something. The great thing about having a little multi effects pedal is you can turn a dial and have a whole set of different sounds, and often they pull out brand new ideas. So today I just hit it over to the BIG DELAY AND REVERB setting I have and gently let loose. Day 24 - I had nothing. I sat in my office with everything setup and just couldn't play anything. Nothing came out. So I put the guitar down, fed my kids like 8 times and crashed on the couch with them. I had a few minutes to myself later in the afternoon, so with my stuff still setup, I cranked the gain and came up with this. Day 23 - I had every intention of building off of my blues jam yesterday. Really wanted to focus in and find the best parts of my solo and really expand on it. Maybe tighten up some of the tones, and had subtle parts in the background. And then this happened... Day 22 - SO yah, no video yesterday...also I had no power at home either ha But today is a new day, with lots of electricity. I’ve been putting out these videos for 22 days now. My process starts with setting up a quick drum track in Garageband on my iPad, then finding a rhythm. Once I have that I just jam over it until it’s not too messy. It has been a strange process for me. I would normally jam over something and from there get ideas for a melody or a solo. I would then c...ut out all the noodling and focus in to make that melody, riff or solo as good as it can be. But that is also not a 20 minute, first thing in the morning task. SO, I may go back and listen to some of my noodles, and find some ideas I particularly liked and go deeper on them. Take something I have created and be more intentional. Like today, there are a number of parts I loved and alot I said, ya good enough. What if I took those bits I loved, and add them to other bits I loved. Day 21 - As promised! Here is another take on yesterday’s song. I kept the drums pretty much the same. The strum and rhythmic feel are also pretty similer, but this time it has a much more minor feel. I am really just leading with an Em, then C, G, D. Not much more to say then that. Day 20 - A new week and a new challenge for myself. I am going to try and string the next few videos together. Grabbing the best concepts from each and building off of them. Hopefully by the end of the week I will have more then a minute jam, but maybe a whole song? Each day might be different parts of the song, or expanding on ideas from the previous day. I am going to try to not pigeon hold the creative process to much. The slight evolution of my mornings brings a new excit...ement and hopefully pulls out some extra creativity.
