MERRY CHRISTMAS Wishing you and your families a blessed, safe, and healthy holiday this year. Enjoy the good food, the homemade desserts, and the memories that are shared. The holidays are always a special time of year, no matter the circumstances that we may be presented with this year. Thank you to each and every follower who has supported my page, shared my content, advocated for mental health, and offered their experiences. Together, we will make the stigma behind men...tal health a thing of the past. Note: My practice will be closed for the holidays from December 24-January 4. I may not be posting as frequently as I truly spend this time focusing on re-charging and enjoying some time away from the screen. Replies during this time may be delayed. HOW TO HELP As a therapist, I understand being viewed as the go-to person when things get rough. Many clients share that sometimes their empathy is used more for others, leaving them empty at times. When it comes to supporting our loved ones this season, I encourage you to be mindful of helping, without stepping into the therapist role. Be the mother, father, sister, brother, friend, or partner that is needed. We are not always called to fix the issues, but rather just t...o be present with the person and feel with them. This is a very short and brief guide in supporting your loved ones this season, while keeping some boundaries for yourself. Are you struggling with compassion fatigue and burnout? Has the pandemic really made it tough for you to focus on yourself as your attention as been so focused on the needs of others? Reach out! THERAPY IS VS. ISN’T Sometimes, there is confusion about what therapy is all about. Some people wonder about therapy’s success given some of the rumours they may have heard from others. Here is a short list of the ways in which therapy is and isn’t what you may expect. ... Before attending a first session with a new therapist, it may be helpful to ask the following questions: Education/ license to be a therapist Models of therapy they practice Years of experience as a therapist Types of concerns they specialize in Fees, session delivery, office location COVID precautions in place Whether they have insurance How they would support your concern #therapy #therapyiscool #therapyisforeveryone #therapyworks #therapysession #therapythoughts #therapists #therapistsofinstagram #psychotherapy #psychology #privatepractice #wellness #wellbeing #mindfulness #reachout #askforhelp #itsokaynottobeokay #mentalhealth #mentalhealthcare #mentalhealthcanada #mentalhealthadvocate #selfcare #mentalhealthawareness #millennialtherapist #therapyforwomen #onlinetherapy #womeninbusiness #counselling #counsellingservices #psychologyfacts

A COVID HOLIDAY We all know and we have heard about the fact that this holiday season is going to look and feel very different compared to years previous, no thanks to this global pandemic. The question on many of our minds is around how to manage these differences and overcome the lack of connectedness we have already had to face. ... These are some fun ways to turn the COVID loom and make the best out of the downtime we have. Focus on recharging and relaxing, creating boundaries to keep yourself and your family safe, and making some time to reconnect with our presence instead of presents this year. What are your thoughts? Share them below! #covid #covid_19 #surviving2020 #holidaytips #christmas #therapy #therapythoughts #therapysession #therapistsofinstagram #mytherapistsays #therapyworks #therapyisforeveryone #therapyiscool #reachout #wellbeing #wellness #mindfulness #recharge #mentalhealth #mentalhealthcanada #mentalhealthadvocate #selfcare #boundaries #giving #privatepracticetherapist #privatepractice #onlinetherapist #psychotherapy #psychotherapist #anxiety

RELATIONSHIP NEEDS Relationships are hard work! Not only do you have to adapt to living with someone, but you also have to actively work on supporting one another and compromising on the differences. Relationships grow and change with time, and so do we! When we feel at conflict with our partners, it’s easy to put ourselves in separate corners and put our foot down. We don’t want to hurt one another, but it’s a slippery slope when our backs are pressed against a wall. We s...ay things we don’t mean, give each other the side eye, or simply create barriers of distance and emotional isolation. Use this tool as a guide to help you identify your needs by paying close attention to your emotions. What are your emotions communicating to you about your needs? What do you feel is missing from your relationship? How can your partner better support the fulfillment of those needs?

ATTACHMENT STYLES When working with my clients, I love to bring in Attachment Theory to discuss the ways in which we have adapted or learned anxious behaviours. Often, our past experiences, upbringing, and the relationship we had with our primary caregivers will dictate the ways in which we manage stress or work through anxiety. ... SECURE attachment is the the most ideal and supportive style. We tend to deal with stress and tackle anxiety with resiliency and stable attention, as we had been shown this in some way from our caregiver. AMBIVALENT attachment tends to see an increase in anxiety responses as we felt as though our parents made us feel criticized or felt we were independent enough on our own at too early of an age. ANXIOUS attachment is simply that...anxiety! Our parents might have been dismissive and disengaged from time to time, making us feel emotionally isolated and confused about emotions in general. DISORGANIZED attachment pops up when parents abandoned their children at an early age, particularly due to substance abuse, incarceration, or mental illness for example. Children tend to resonate with anger towards their childhood and deal with depression or other severe mental health conditions. Children often resonate with feeling abandoned and struggle with making connections in their adulthood due to this fear. Which attachment style are you? Comment below

ACT TOOLS FOR COVID ACT or Acceptance & Commitment Therapy is a lovely therapy model I like to bring into my sessions time and time again. ACT speaks to understanding our anxiety and building the skills of accepting what is outside our control and committing to meaningful, positive cognitive change in our future thought processes. ... This model is particularly helpful when managing COVID anxiety because of the lack of control we tend to be resonating with right now. There are a lot of what ifquestions associated with this period of time in our lives and the uncertain future is a cause for trigger for many of us. Please use the FACE COVID tool to find acceptance and commit to the changes YOU CAN CONTROL. Remember, the key to anxiety coping isn’t to just be okay with what’s going on...but rather it is to accept what cannot be changed with our own energy, and focus on what can be. #act #acttherapy #acceptanceandcommitmenttherapy #clinicaltherapy #therapy #therapyskills #therapysupport #therapythoughts #therapysession #therapyworks #therapistsofinstagram #therapist #psychotherapist #psychotherapy #counselling #counsellingpractice #psychology #mentalhealthtips #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthadvocate #emotionalhealth #chooseyourself #findyourcalm #selfdiscovery #privatepractice #mentalwellness #millennialtherapist #mytherapistsays #covid #covidsupport

REMEMBRANCE DAY 2020 Today, let’s take a moment to remember those who sacrificed for the freedom, peace, and space to be our wonderful and unique selves. The generations before us made immense sacrifices for us and have provided us with the ability to embrace our Everyday Selves! ... I ask you to take a moment of silence and pause today to remember this sacrifice and to honour those who contributed to the freedoms we enjoy as a result. I thank you for this and I remember that the life and privilege I live is thanks to those before me. #remeber #remeberanceday #givethanks #freedom #lestweforget2020 #therapistsofinstagram #therapist #psychotherapist #psychotherapistsofinstagram #therapy #therapythoughts #therapysession #mytherapistsays #therapyoversilence #clincialtherapy #whytherapy #therapyisforeveryone #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthisimportant #mentalhealthmatters #mentalwellness #therapyforwomen #anxietysupport #anxietyproblems #anxietysucks #anxietyrecovery #millennialtherapist #londonontario #ldnont #ontariotherapist

ITS OKAY TO... Therapy can be a struggle for many people because of the stigma behind sharing. We are often ashamed or feel guilty to talk about ourselves for a whole hour with a stranger who doesn’t know our lives. That’s so normal and I’m here to validate that for you. Therapists totally see you on that! I would like to take a moment today to remind you that ITS OKAY to worry, be scared, get angry, feel sad or get down on yourself for something that may seem minor. Your e...motions are a communicator to you about what the brain can’t always recognize. These fears and sources of emotion are all understandable and they matter. Embrace the emotions. Listen to what they are sharing with you. Get active about it! You’re in control of your life and the outcomes of change. #therapy #therapythoughts #therapyworks #therapysession #therapyoversilence #itsokaynottobeokay #emotionalhealth #therapists #therapistsofinstagram #psychotherapy #psychotherapist #psychotherapistsofinstagram #privatepracticetherapist #healing #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealthisimportant #mentalhealthishealth #youmatter #reachout #wellness #healingjourney #millennialtherapist #therapyforwomen #therapyformillennials #mentalhealthadvocate #ontariotherapist #anxietysupport #anxietysucks #endthestigmaofmentalhealth
