It was a gorgeous night to end off a month of movement and mental health awareness. 161 km and over 4000 meters of elevation later, it’s going to feel weird to actually just stay on the couch for a day I’ve also learned to make time for myself, prioritize on my happiness and be more positive when things don’t go as planned. It’s a good day. Tried out the @sauconycanada Peregrine 10’s in Stanley Park today. What a fun shoe. A little firmer than what I’m used to but still comfortable, grippy and light. I’ll have to try it in different terrain to compare and also try the Peregrine 10 ST which are supposedly meant for muddier conditions. That won’t be hard to find in the North Shore. First run in the @sauconycanada Triumph 18’s First impressions: great cushioning while still being springy and love the dusk/gold colour (matches my @endurapparel socks!). Sometimes it’s good to do something that scares you. I lack confidence on technical descents and trust me, I’ve been working on it and have improved significantly since I started trail running. I’ve always avoided going down the BCMC because it’s steep and very technical (and slippery on days like this). I took the day off today to clear my head so I decided today was the day to try it out. No pressure, just me, the mountain and many hikers going up. While there were some ner...ve-wracking moments, overall it wasn’t bad. The descent was a blur which meant I was extra alert going down. And yes I went up the hard way it was a confidence-boosting day for sure. Here’s my attempt at the first @mile2marathon virtual race... a 5K time trial. The False Creek seawall was a good place to do it, a flat out-and-back. I started hard before I settled into a comfortable pace. Halfway in, I seemed to hit some kind of wall and lost 20 precious seconds. The last 2 km was all about rallying to get back on pace. I couldn’t get close to my best 5k time, but despite the lack of training, I’m happy with this. I tried my best and found new motivation t...o keep me going through the summer of solo virtual races. I was anxious about today all week, but it turned out pretty great. I started it off with a pretty good race at @westvanrun where I ran a consistent strong pace. It wasn’t a PB but it felt really comfortable that I think a new 5k PB is within reach this year. After that, I needed to complete my long run, another 27 km from Park Royal to Lynn Valley. Thankfully I still had enough gas in the tank to complete it. It wasn’t pretty but at least my surroundings made up for how I fe...lt. I promptly ordered ice cream right after.
