Artisans appreciate people who support local! When you purchase from a local artisan, you are saying Thank You to someone who spent hours, days, weeks on your item, and did it not for money (in truth, they don't make much of it when you count their time and materials), but for the experience and the feeling of satisfaction when your face lights up upon seeing your finished item. People who import items in mass quantities invest nothing more than a few minutes surfing the web..., browsing a few listings, typing in their credit card info, and ripping open a box. What they also invest in is supporting a sweatshop environment that pays its workers pennies per hour. Which begs the question...If you're going to pay someone pennies per hour, why not make it someone you can actually see, meet, have a conversation with? Lately, there has been a mass influx of people importing knockoff items sourced overseas, then selling locally on buy and sell sites for a huge markup. This hurts local artisans more than the person importing can ever know. Crocheters and knitters are losing to places like Wish.com where people can buy a knockoff machine made scarf or hat for a dollar...local will cost you upwards of $15. Or they lose to importers who will buy that hat for a dollar, then bring it home and sell it for $10, just to undercut the price of the local person and make a few bucks. Is society really so greedy that a person can make thousands of dollars at our neighbor's expense, possibly driving them out of the industry entirely without having a second thought? Apparently. Which is why we at Everything Nice appreciate all of our local friends and neighbors who have and will continue to support what we offer. YOU are the reason why we keep going, why we keep dreaming, and most of all, why we keep creating. Thank you!
