Words of wisdom If this doesn’t work nothing will in the upper levels
What is losgelassenheit? Experts explain this complicated concept: "Losgelassenheit, which is physical as well as psychological, is the key to success in riding... horses. When schooling any difficult exercise, it always must be possible to immediately relax the horse again, at any time, both physically and psychologically. The back has to be up enough to support the level of head carriage. Meaning, I can only put the horse’s head up as much as I have their back each day in training. It’s easy to want to ride in up frame all the time, esp when preparing for a show. But, with proper muscular development of the topline as our top priority, we must be mindful that the head can not come up past the point where the back starts to drop. Pay attention to the feeling of the rhythm (slowing or rushing ca...n indicate loss of back engagement), The feeling in the back (The muscles feel like they’re coming up to meet your seat and the area behind the saddle feels expanded), and the feeling in the contact(The horse dropping or hanging/bracing on the contact can indicate loss of back engagement) ~ Still Hill Dressage Here you can see Ike's back dropped by the third photo as his head got too high for his level of strength at the time.
