Situational Update - Both suspects have now been ARRESTED! UPDATE #2 - Calgary police officer killed in the line of duty First-degree murder warrants have bee...n issued for two people alleged to have been involved in the death of a Calgary Police Service officer. A male youth and Amir ABDULRAHMAN, 19, both of Calgary, are sought in connection with the incident around 10:50 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020. Application was made to the Youth Division of Calgary Provincial Court in order to identify the youth charged in this case. Both were in a sport utility vehicle that was stopped by Sgt. Andrew Harnett in the area of Falconridge Boulevard and Falconridge Drive N.E. The vehicle fled the traffic stop and struck Sgt. Harnett. Other officers were nearby and rendered aid as quickly as possible, while EMS rushed to their side. Paramedics and fellow officers fought to save Sgt. Harnett’s life, but he was pronounced deceased at hospital near midnight. The vehicle being sought is a copper-coloured, 2006 Infiniti FX, with a small spare tire on the front passenger side. The vehicle also has noticeable hail damage. A photo of a similar vehicle is attached. Sudbury police have issued an arrest warrant for 32-year-old Douglas Jeffries whom they say is a suspect in yesterday's fatal stabbing downtown. (Supplied/Greater Sudbury Police Service) Greater Sudbury Police say a 25-year-old man who was stabbed outside a cash store on Elm Street in downtown Sudbury yesterday has died of his injuries. Now, police have issued an arrest warrant for second degree murder in connection to his death.... Police say they are looking for Douglas Jeffries, 32. He is described as a "younger, shorter man with a slim build." We will not be commenting further while the criminal proceeding is ongoing. *ORIGINAL* Off-Duty Police Officer Charged with Impaired Driving, to be Suspended Just after 11:00 a.m. on November 13th, 2020, a GSPS Police Officer, Constable Thomas Van Drunen, was stopped by a GSPS Police Officer on Municipal Road 80 in Greater Sudbury. As a result of an investigation, Thomas Van Drunen was charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada: Operation while Impaired Operation while Impaired Blood Alcohol Level Concentration Equal to or Exceeds 80 mgs of Alcohol in 100mL of Blood Van Drunen began with the Greater Sudbury Police Service as a 4th Class Constable in April 2020. The actions of this police officer do not reflect the Greater Sudbury Police Service’s values or mission to ensure a culture of trust through professional service while empowering our community to enhance safety, says Chief of Police, Paul Pedersen. While these are accusations at this point, I am nevertheless very disheartened by this incident. Each and every day, our members are committed to protecting and serving our community and keeping people safe. Road safety is of the utmost importance. Members who fail to uphold our values and make the inexcusable decision to drive while impaired will be held accountable for their actions, without exception. Under the Police Service Act of Ontario, Van Drunen will be suspended from duty with pay. The incident has also been forwarded to the Professional Standards Bureau for further investigation. Van Drunen may be subject to additional charges under the Police Service Act. We remind everyone that there is never an excuse to operate a vehicle while impaired. The man was transported to hospital by Paramedic Services and remains in critical condition. The individual responsible for the attack is described as a younger, shorter man with a slim build and black hair. The man was seen wearing a grey hoody and dark pants at the time of the incident. He fled on foot prior to Police arrival. This is believed to be an isolated incident as the individuals are known to each other. We do not believe that there is any concern to the general Public. Officers continue to canvas the area and are reviewing video footage in order to get a better description of the man involved. High Risk Vehicle Stop: Man Wanted for Human Trafficking, Firearms and Domestic Violence Offences On Wednesday, September 30th, 2020, the Greater Sudbury Police... Service received a request from the Toronto Police Service to assist in locating a wanted fugitive believed to be in the Greater Sudbury area. As a result, on the evening of October 1st, 2020, the GSPS Integrated Crime Section, Major Crime Section and Emergency Response Unit (Tactical Unit) conducted a high risk vehicle stop and safely apprehended the wanted man without incident. 22-year old Tyrell Francis was wanted for 38 Criminal Charges related to Human Trafficking, Firearms and Domestic Violence offences. Francis has been returned to the Toronto Police Service to answer to the charges. A second man, from Greater Sudbury, who was also inside the vehicle, was found to be in possession of cocaine and was charged accordingly. He will appear in Sudbury court at a later date to answer to the CDSA charges. His name cannot be released as the information has not yet been sworn to through the Court process.
