Gaining body position and taking away the defenders hands/stick .. Applicable to all players and highly beneficial to players who are on the smaller side .. Getting inside tight to a defender makes it hard for them to check you... .. Lots of great memories on the ODR .. All of our coaches grew up playing shinny on the ODR. These are some our best memories while playing Hockey .. Playing, having fun, working on stuff because you want to, trying new moves, failing, being creative, failing some more, trying them again, learning and before you knew it, hours have gone by. Doing this over time leads to plenty of growth physically and mentally. You are arming yourself with the tools and accountability to do thi...ngs on your own .. You can sit around during this pandemic, or you can have the mind set to get better everyday .. Our IG stories from last week showed how many people are out there practicing in their own yard and getting better. We love that. We think that’s one of the best places to learn .. All of you who have been on the ice with us, have learned a lot. Now it’s your opportunity to get even better at them .. Try not to worry or be concerned about being coached just go out there and FIO (figure it out). If your having fun, your learning, and your going to want to go back .. Last seasons rookie of the year and this years MVP executing slap passes .. The 1-3-1 is a common set up on power plays, having the most deadly guys set up on the flank .. This is an elite skill and position on the ice that requires a couple key points:... 1) you must be a threat to shoot and are able to fire that one T. Your slap pass should look very similar to your shot 2) vision beyond what’s in front of you to identify passing lanes to players on the weak side 3) having your stick blade come all the way through (think golf swing) while dropping a knee, and extending the bottom arm to deliver a clean puck to your teammate .. A couple simple drills to work on transition skating .. These are great for inside edge control, balance and keeping a strong core .. 1) make figure 8’s between the three cones in any pattern. Just remember to turn both ways! Belly button should always face the cone, and go backwards on the inside leg... .. 2) same drill but smaller space .. 3) pivot from forwards to backwards on the top cone, do an escape move around the bottom cones. Always come out of the escape with speed back to the top cone .. 4) stolen drill from the head coach mentor for Hockey mb. Bottom and top cone: transition from backwards to forwards, middle cone transition from forwards to backwards .. In all drills try and stay low, keep you’re body compact and feel those inside edges.
