THE ROLLOVER Spinal Articulation, Control Integration of upper and lower body. This exercise is not a beginner exercise and takes some practise and warming up! Do not attempt this exercise with any spinal and neck issues! ... Lie on your back and stretch your straight legs up towards the ceiling. Exhale and press through the arms to curl your pelvis up off the mat and over onto your shoulders. Inhale at the top. On your exhale roll your spine as slowly and controlled back down onto the mat. THE ROLL UP Why not try it with the magic circle or a small ball? Centring, Flow, Abdominals, Stamina, Spinal Articulation, Control... Lie on your back holding the magic circle in your hands. Reach your arms by your ears, legs are straight on the floor. Inhale to prepare. Exhale, bring your arms forward and up as you roll all the way up through seated position to a forward contracted seated position reaching the circle forward. At first go slow and take as many breaths as you need. Then try to pick up the pace and use one full breath for the whole movement. Sit with your knees bent and feet on floor if it is difficult for you to sit with your legs out straight. Ensure you can do this movement without props first before you add the ball or magic circle for added load. #marchmatness #pilates # pilateslifestyle #pilatesmat

SWAN PREP When so much we do throughout our day to day life means gravity is pushing us down, it is nice to be able to counter with this lovely gravity defying exercise. It is also the precursor to its more demanding sister SWAN DIVE. Precision, Control... Lie face down, legs together, hands under your shoulders. Elbows tight into your waist. You may wish to place a pillow or rolled up towel under your pelvis/belly to support your lower back. Pushing your hands into the mat, pull your head and chest about 10 cm off the floor. Keep your eyes ahead of you, chest forward and slightly up. Support your lower back with tight abs, careful not to dump into the lower back. Think of squeezing your shoulder blades down and together. Hold for 4-5 breaths, then slowly lower back down to floor. Repeat five times. #marchmatness #pilates #pilatesmat #swandive #pilateslifestyle
