During a College Tour I attended in 2017, after the International Association for College Admission Counseling annual seminar at Case Western University, I met a high school teacher and counsellor from Togo, Africa. It was an educational experience, not only the marathon tour through 18 university campuses in Northern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, but also 10 days with other counsellors from India, Greece, Togo, Madagascar, China, UAE, Nepal, Malaysia, Mexico, Chile. Since then, I have been able to support students applying to university in the hopes of bettering their options and receiving a world-class education. TODAY THE GOVERNMENT OF ONTARIO ANNOUNCED THEIR PLANS FOR SCHOOL OPENING IN SEPTEMBER- In summary, 'Elementary school children from Kindergarten to Grade 8 will be able to get an in-person education five days a week and will remain in one cohort for the full day, with one teacher if possible, which will include lunch and recess.' Parents may choose to have their childrent stay home and undergo remote learning delivered by the school boards.... For high school students, 'Secondary schools across Ontario will be divided into designated school boards and non-designated school boards.' In designated school boards which include 24 school boards such as Toronto, Peel, York, Durham, Halton, Waterloo, London, Ottawa, Niagara, Hamilton, Windsor-Essex among others will have class cohorts of about 15 students, who attend school on alternate days or on alternate schedules.' Secondary students in these boards would see a hybrid-style education split between in-person classroom attendance for at least 50 per cent of instructional days and online learning.' The most important part of my work as an independent educational consultant is to make certain that I suggest universities where my students will receive the best education for THEM. In order to excel not only does the school need to provide an education, but the student needs to be happy so that socially and emotionally they have a healthy mindset and then can apply themselves academically. Not only for US school, but in Canada look closely at the way a school functions, not just the rankings!
