We chose Russell Street to open our business because we love what is happening here. The established businesses felt like a good fit for us and we are excited about the future businesses that are coming. Leslie Lentz, Pretty Things OnRussell #TheSmilesBehindtheMasks It was in November 2020 when Pretty Things on Russell first opened their doors and this boutique shop has been a big hit with residents ever since. Shop owner, Leslie Lentz, said her favourite part of owning ...a shop in a small town is the connection she has with people in the community. I love to hear their stories and watch the families grow and thrive in this town. In summer, you’re likely to catch Leslie down near the canal watching the boats travel through. Her favourite time of the day is twilight, a magical time anywhere, but particularly so in Smiths Falls. It's exciting to see another movie shoot happening at our very own Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario!

This is a community that is tight-knit, but at the same time growing and changing. It is full of people who really care about making this a good place to live. I have always felt welcome here. Alexis officer, Art + Science Physiotherapy and Pilates #TheSmilesBehindtheMasks Alexis Officer may not have grown up in Smiths falls, but she adopted the community as her own after marrying her husband, Dan, a Smiths Falls’ ‘original,’ and moving to town to raise their three child...ren. I have always felt I wanted to build my practice in the community where I live and where my kids go to school, and so Art + Science was born. Opening her physiotherapy business downtown has been the perfect fit for Alexis, who said she loves working on Main Street. It feels like a friendly place to me. It’s the perfect blend of a little bit of bustle without the traffic jams or noise. I love that you can walk from one end to the other in five minutes but still find everything you need. Art + Science has been open now for three years, and Alexis has spent that time getting to know the community, meeting the people who live here, and hearing their stories. I’m really starting to know what this place and people here are about. You’re likely to catch sight of Alexis at lunch hour, walking over to a local eatery to grab some lunch. This summer, she is looking forward to the annual RISE festival in Centennial Park. After cancelling the event last year due to COVID, she is really pumped about plans for a fun series of classes and workshops. This is in keeping with her philosophy and chosen career helping people. I believe that the only person that can make you well is yourself. No two people are alike and everybody experiences pain differently. I love to connect with my clients, hear their story, and give them the knowledge and support they need to find their own path to wellness.

A few times a week, at 4 a.m., I sit on the front stoop at Bowies after 16 hours on my feet. I’ve always liked the nighttime. I feel like I’m closing down the town. Pat Maloney, Bowie's #TheSmilesBehindtheMasks Bowie’s owner, Pat Maloney, may have grown up in Greely, but he spent his summers on the Rideau and is a local at heart. Pat and his partner picked Smiths Falls to settle down and raise a family, drawn by family close by and a reasonable cost of living. ... Bowie’s is a small but cozy venue that has brought well known musicians and performers to the small community of Smiths Falls, which is a win for Pat. As a songwriter, I love visiting new places, big or small. It’s amazing how many musicians have mentioned they would usually play in Kingston and then head straight to Ottawa the next day. Thanks to Bowie’s, those musicians can now make a stop in Smiths Falls. Pat's background as a musician and former event planner complement each other well at Bowie's, but it's Smiths Falls small-town feel that really makes it special. I love how I know most of the people that come through the door by nameI also like hosting musicians; it’s fun to introduce them to a new dot on the map.

Did your little ones miss their visit with Santa this year? The Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum may have the solution! Spread a little holiday magic by sending letters to Santa at the museum. Santa Claus will be making a special visit to the museum to video personalized messages to anyone who has left him a special greeting. The Museum’s North Pole mailbox is located at 11 Old Slys Road. Letters must be received by December 16 with an email and telephone number in order for Santa to have enough time to respond to everyone. Donations to the museum are gratefully appreciated.
