Starting February 8, Alberta’s dance studios can begin welcoming children and youth back into their facilities as part of Step 1 guidelines for Alberta’s Path F...orward strategy. The highlights and requirements of the guidelines are listed in other posts, as well as on the Alberta.ca website. Dance Safe Alberta will continue to work collaboratively with the dance community and the Alberta Government to answer questions and share clarifications on the intent and conditions of the reopening. Today, like you all, we are grateful for having our voices heard by the Alberta Government and Dr. Hinshaw, and all advocates who have been so respectfully working on a way to safely bring children and youth back to their dance training. We indeed have a Path Forward. We all know this has not been an easy path. The bumps in the road have been smoothed out by the resiliency of studio owners, directors, and teachers; students and their families; and the Alberta Government and Dr. Hinshaw, to find a safe and sustainable way to keep children and youth active, engaged, learning, and leading the example. As they have done in their schools, Alberta’s children and youth continue to show us what is possible when we remember that our best days are not behind us - they are ahead. We are Alberta’s dance studios, Dance Safe Alberta members, and we are ready! Thank you for letting us dance: We Will Be Safe. Please share this great news, and share your thanks with your MLA. This was, and will continue to be, a TEAM effort to keep our students, staff and communities safe! Jason Kenney Tyler Shandro Doug Schweitzer YourAlberta (Government of Alberta)
We did it dance parents!!!!! We are back!!! Will be sending out emails just to go over rules but they will be the same as before being shut down. Staying apart, masking, hand sanitizing, no parents in the studio. Most of our classes are less than 10. Will be looking close and seeing what needs to change. OMG - so excited to have all my dancers off their screen and back in front of me!!!!!
This is what our government has said is okay in step 1. How is this okay compared to how a dance class actually works. Thinking our government really doesn't know how we teach dance.
Reminder that we are now on Christmas Holidays!! We hope all our families have a very Merry Christmas!Reminder that we are now on Christmas Holidays!! We hope all our families have a very Merry Christmas!
NEW PAINTINGS!!!! I was finally able to get my hands on some varnish! These are some of the paintings I worked on over Christmas break. I will be getting back to my custom orders ASAP! Thank you for your patience with me
Are any of my dance moms Scentsy reps??
Will be at the studio today for Purdy and present pickup until 3pm!!!!
Parents - please keep the momentum up of writing to our MLA's talking about how hard this has been on your children, their mental health, their safety. Write to Kenney!!! They are still clarifying what all the new restrictions mean. They can dance in the schools because it is "school related". If we can put it in their face how much your children need their activities, how our teachers support their physical as well as mental health. I have had many students who use ...us as their mental help, that we are there for them, we are the ones they want to talk to, to complain to, for us to support them and then understand that they need to "dance it out". That it is unsafe in your house, that there isn't enough space, the floors aren't proper. I had one hit her head on a fireplace last week. I have seen them get very close to stairs, trip over animals. They don't have the quiet space to concentrate and be focused. The more you share, the more they will listen. We need our dancers in front of us to make sure they are doing it correctly to prevent injuries or overuse injuries. I can't always see if their knees are over their toes, therefore they could be putting pressure on their joints the wrong way. Keep pushing!!! PS we all just got all of our first aid updated, so we are ready. Next step for staff is to find mental health first aid to assist our dancers!!! They will need us as they return to dance!!! See more
All of my dance teacher friends deserve the biggest pat on the back, the biggest hugs and the most support. I was thinking the other day, we are completely blessed to do the job we have. And at the same time, right now is the most heartbreaking time not being able to have our students in the room with us. Very few other activities keep their students from the age of 2 or 3 till they graduate. We have been with them through some of their biggest heartbreaks, their greate...st achievements, through family splits, and for some of us, we have watched our dance babies get married and have children of their own. Some get to teach the grandchildren of their first babies. (thankfully not yet!!). I am blessed to be part of some of their lives, even just to check in or see them on social media. So sending love to my present dancers and my dancers of the past who have made this job so fulfilling. Now - give us our dancers back!! See more
Our 80s week continued today!!!!! Loving it!
Be ready when we head back to competition!!! (fingers and toes all crossed!)
All of our dancers are invited to dress up this week! But remember that certain costumes can make dancing difficult so it’s best to save those for another time or to have something underneath so it can be removed if needed. We can’t wait to see what you come up with this year!

These faces made my day. I’ve been missing my Chairs and friends class so much!!! They put so much into perspective for me and their joy of dance fills me up.
To our Ms Miranda - the girl who is ready to fight for all injustices, who has no patience for people who judge, who will be first in line to stand up to bullies - we are so proud to call you our teacher and we hope you have a fantastic birthday!!!
We only have 2 more hours to bid!!!! All proceeds go to Suicide Prevention that is very close to Ms Miranda’s heart as she has lost loved ones to suicide.
Do you ever wonder what happens in the studio when it's empty? We found out today... I keep talking about Ms Debbie teaching a class. Grooving with Ms Debbie? Sounds pretty good. I'm in!!!
So many things happened around the studio this last week!! A few of our dancers attended the Northern Force Dance Competition this last weekend and rocked it after 9 months of not being on a stage. But you all know I love the work that is put into their training even more than medals and for ballet dancers it is the excitement of their first pair of pointe shoes. We had 6 dancers receive pointe shoes last night!! Now the real hard work starts!!! Congrats to all my dancers of the studio who after months of not being in the studio are back and putting in so much hard work!!
Ms Miranda's painting is up for auction - all proceeds go to Suicide Prevention.
