Dear Express families, We're ba-a-a-ck! We hope you enjoyed your week off. We are pleased to announce that the Express Online Academy is back and more streamlined than before. We will offer very targeted sessions, less frequently, to avoid "screen fatigue" and maximize participation. To our Express families, Thank you to coaches Julia, Leigh, Pete, Cliff, Haley, Leslie and Dennis! Because of their hard work, the Express Online Academy was a huge success! We had over 500 participants during the month of January, and offered some of the only training virtually in the area for our sport! Great work!... Now, it's time to take a break. We will be off from Feb. 1 - Feb., 7 to recharge our batteries and re-organize the Academy with some fantastic new ideas plus some of your favourites. Some coaches will take time to re-connect with their players. On Monday, Feb. 8, we will feature former Team Canada star Paul Duerden. (Arguably, the best volleyball player Canada has ever produced. Please do not miss this. We are beyond excited for this one!) We take requests. If there is anything you'd like us to do, please email Darlene at [email protected]. Welcome to WELLNESS WEDNESDAYS with Coach Julia! Yesterday, our Express players & coaches (22 from many different teams) came together to discuss #gratitude. Our athletes were asked to write THANK YOU FOR: and they filled in numerous things such as life, parents, express family, etc. We chatted about what we are thankful for, what gratitude means and how it helps the human mind and body. ... We then played a fun game of what the kids are more thankful for example : siblings or pets (most said pets :p), discussed how we show gratitude to others, and how the practice of gratitude improves athletic performance! All in all, the Google Hangout represented #joy in not only sport, but life, even during these challenging times.
