Dry Eyes means more hydration. How many of us get enough water intake during the day? Adding lemon to your water is a great way to help consume more especially if you want the added flavor and some extra vitamin C. According to my health Alberta, it's recommended to drink six to eight glasses of water per day. Some adults may need more or less depending on how healthy they are, how much they exercise, and how dry or hot the climate is. The top 10 water rich foods include: cu...cumbers, tomatoes, spinach, broccoli, brussel sprouts, oranges and apples. Welcome to 20/20 Tuesdays. There are lots of at home therapies that we can do to help with dry eye disease. For those who have meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), where the oil glands in the eyelids are blocked up, warm compresses with an eye mask can be an effective at home maintenance treatment. An eye mask is more effective than splashing water into your eyes or running tap water on a wash cloth and placing over your eyes. If the oils are of poor quality and thick like too...thpaste, adding heat with the warm compress will help to melt the blockages into an oil consistency. Just like we brush our teeth everyday, the eye mask should be dailt as part of your eye hygiene. eye hygiene to improve MGD. Ten minutes of hot compress with the eye mask at night followed by a lid massage & lid cleanser is a good starting point to get the oils in the eyelids flowing better. The eye mask can also be used during the day as a soothing relaxing break from screentime. The mask can also be used when having a stye to help reduce swelling and unblock the oil gland. Being vulnerable allows you to heal from within. By talking it out, your voice can be heard. We have lost to many to the silence. Carry on with courage. Breathe even though you don'tt know how everything will turn out. You are allowed to let hope fill your being. You are free to surrender, let go, & start over trusting the light within has guided you here. You are more than where you have been. Welcome to 20/20 Tuesdays! Did you know that mascara should be discarded every 3 months? Mascara is the one beauty product that should be replaced the most frequently because when applying mascara to your lashes, the bacteria and skin cells from the lashes are placed back into the tube once the wand is reinserted, and can easily grow inside the tube. Mascara should be disposed of every 3 months to prevent the risk of eye infections. Waterproof mascara should be avoided! Th...e waterproof formula often contains waxes and silicone which can help the makeup last longer against sweat, tears and water but this can also dry out the lashes and even cause them to fall out. Waterproof mascara is also much more difficult to remove and excessive rubbing of the eyes can cause more irritation to the delicate skin around the eyes. One of the most crucial elements to eye health is not sleeping in mascara or makeup in general. The eyes and skin need to breathe. Clumps of mascara can block the oil or meibomian glands along the lid margin which produce the oily part of the tears causing irritation and dry eyes. Removing eye makeup with a gentle oil based remover will reduce your risk of blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids), dry eyes and eye infections. With the number of COVID cases rise and new restrictions are in place for Calgary it is especially important now to continue to be careful and to wear masks and practice good hygiene. Let's do our part to keep safe & help reduce the number of cases. At Eyedeology, we are keeping the health of our team and patients top of mind. In our commitment to maintain our disinfection protocols, we had our second disinfection of Centennial Clinic with Clorox 3...60 dry most atomizer to all surfaces and touch points in the clinic. We are continuing to space out appointment times to reduce traffic at the clinic and to allow for social distancing. All visits to the clinic at this time are by appointment only but we also offer curbside pickup for products and convenient online ordering options. We offer Telehealth visits for those unable to come in for a physical appointment. Simply let us know at the time of your booking. We have maintained heightened cleaning protocols in between patients, hand sanitizing, temperature checks, & screening patients.
