My friends from Salmon & Sable sent me a ton of really delicious f...reshly caught sockeye salmon from Alaska that I just had to cook over fire. Accord...ing to statements by those who knew him, he didnt like confrontation and would give anyone the shirt off his back if they needed it. 2. . Hed help haul baptism tubs and chairs out to the courts so there could be worship services in the projects. He regularly attended bible studies in a small tax office in the neighborhood. He & his partner regularly turned to prayer to find guidance, strength, hope, peace. 3. He was by those who knew him. His employer was devastated by the loss of Big Floyd. Regular customers remember him as a kind & happy gentle giant. Family remembers him as everyones favorite everything - favorite uncle, favorite cousin - favorite everything. They openly talk about his past mistakes and say, He never blamed anyone else. He always took full responsibility for the choices he made and wanted to amends for his past. 4. He was killed In Minneapolis where he had relocated to start a fresh life. He wanted to do better, be better. He was raised in Houston, which he claimed as his home. He was deeply loved by the people who knew him in both of his communities. 5. tortured . With his last breath he begged for the comfort of the woman who gave him life. He died an agonizing, drawn-out death at the hands of 4 officers while bystanders pleaded with officers on his behalf. Like the rest of the world, I have a pit in my stomach today. The sound of George Floyds voice begging for air, for water, for relief is burned into my brain. Its a sound I wont ever forget - . I have dear friends who wear the uniform. Im proud of them every day for the work they do and the dedication, honesty, integrity they do it with. They are the good guys tasked to serve and protect. But THIS? This was not service. This was not protection. . . . If youre outraged and heartbroken today - . . And if youre not - . I just want to say to Georges mother - - . Its not enough, but its all I have today. . . I promise to be the squeaky wheel by calling law-makers and attending protests. Im not afraid to ask the hard questions and require they be answered. - . I give you my word , how he died, and what that says about our world. & ... & . . Its never been ok. . (EDITED TO ADD: Yall can stop coming at me with the George Floyd has a criminal past or He led a controversial life lectures. Im fully aware of his past charges, convictions, and colorful choices. And guess what? It literally doesnt matter. None of it. Theres absolutely NOTHING he could have ever done to justify the way he was treated & ultimately killed. NOTHING. But since youre attacking the fallen, allow me to clarify something for you: His last conviction was in 2007. THIRTEEN YEARS AGO. Who he was in 2007 doesnt change my opinion on who he was on the day he was murdered in 2020. Big Floyd did the time for his crime. And when he was released from prison he worked hard to turn his life around. This post is about who he was the day he died.... not who he was 13 years ago before he transformed his life. Have YOU changed in the last 13 years? I for one was a very different person in 2007. And you know what? I AM GRATEFUL EVERYDAY for the opportunity to grow, transform, become something better with each rising of the sun. Hear me when I say: the people who knew me in 2007 wouldnt understand me now. And people who are just meeting me now would have a hard time comprehending what I was capable of in 2007. People change. Period. The point of life is to evolve. Which he did. So how about putting down your hate and focusing on what actually matters here: that an unarmed black man was killed by law enforcement for no reason ... again. You want to be angry about something? Be angry about THAT.)
