Eye Meets World Photography 27.04.2021

In early 2019, I was commissioned by Michael Rikley-Lancaster, curator of the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum to photograph any and every element of the museum that caught my eye. It was a rare and welcome opportunity as a photographer to be given that kind of creative freedom. Thank you Michael, Melanie and MVTM. Beginning today, the MVTM presents a new Virtual Exhibit, WARPED: A unique view of industrial textile machinery that provides visitors the experience of the tex...tile industry and the machinery through the lens of photographer Trevor Johnston. Visit the free virtual exhibit (link below) and enjoy the abstract complexity of machinery parts, their rich colours and textures, and an intriguing perspective on industrial artifacts. It’s an honour to have been selected as one of two featured artists and the first ever photographer in this year’s Mississippi Mills Visitors Guide. Here’s hoping we will soon see vlsitors and tourists flocking back to our incredible town, which happens to be home to countless talented, creative and friendly folks. With more and more opening up, be sure to add a trip to #Almonte and the rest of #MississippiMills to your summer calendar. Although I'm still not back behind the camera snapping photos, it is always nice to see my photography pop up here and there. This photo goes back almost two years and it's presence on the cover of Lanark County's annual Festivals and Events Guide was largely made possible due to the diligent work of Tourism Manager, Marie White, in securing model releases. I shot this photo one year ago this morning. Narcity Canada’s use of the image today in their great post about our fair town was timely and coincidental.

More stories from the farm. We spent another afternoon with the camera this past weekend at Arlee and Diane's Rock-N-Horse Farm, photographing life in the barn. I shot a lot with my 50mm f1.4 lens, which doesn't see a lot of action (but should) and experimented with spot metering, so these photos will have something of a different feel to them from previous farm photos. Two of my favourite things to photograph are fall colours and foggy landscapes. Fog fell over fall yesterday here in the Ottawa Valley, so I brought along my camera as we headed into the city. Just north of Upper Dwyer Hill Road, along March Road, stands a tiny, weather-worn, abandoned log home that has been whispering my name for the past year. I finally answered.
