In early 2019, I was commissioned by Michael Rikley-Lancaster, curator of the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum to photograph any and every element of the museum that caught my eye. It was a rare and welcome opportunity as a photographer to be given that kind of creative freedom. Thank you Michael, Melanie and MVTM. Rock-N-Horse Farm may not be the biggest maple syrup operation in Lanark County, but it is surely one of the friendliest, most interesting farms in the area and their syrup is second to none. So much history, hard work and dedication bottled for your pancake pleasure.

More stories from the farm. We spent another afternoon with the camera this past weekend at Arlee and Diane's Rock-N-Horse Farm, photographing life in the barn. I shot a lot with my 50mm f1.4 lens, which doesn't see a lot of action (but should) and experimented with spot metering, so these photos will have something of a different feel to them from previous farm photos. Two of my favourite things to photograph are fall colours and foggy landscapes. Fog fell over fall yesterday here in the Ottawa Valley, so I brought along my camera as we headed into the city. Just north of Upper Dwyer Hill Road, along March Road, stands a tiny, weather-worn, abandoned log home that has been whispering my name for the past year. I finally answered.

Every year, mid-June to mid-July, the forest floor comes alive with thousands of Showy Lady Slipper Orchids. Just 40 minutes from #Almonte. Be sure to check it out. I have to admit we were more than a tad cynical as Kathy and I headed down Hwy. 15 to photograph blooming lilacs in tiny #Franktown, self-proclaimed "Lilac Capital of Ontario." Turns out, Franktown is the real deal. Lilacs galore. It was a triple scoop bonus when a photo-friendly couple* rolled into the lilac-lined park in their mint-condition '62 Chevy Impala. SOLVED: Mystery of the Good Friday Sunset!
