Bathroom and laundry room fans remove moisture and are an important defence against mold and mildew. When was the last time you cleaned your bathroom or laundry... room fan? Did you know that lint and dust can ignite by an overheated motor? Inspect your bathroom and laundry room fans regularly. Turn the power off and the cover can be safely and easily removed. Just pull the cover down gently and pinch the wires on either side to free the cover from the housing. Vacuum the cover on both sides to remove dust, lint and cobwebs to allow the motor to breathe and moist air to be pulled out through the vent more easily. Washing the cover with soap and water after vacuuming is best. Then vacuum the inside housing of the fan including the motor. Simply put the wire ends back into their slots by pinching them together and gently push the cover back up into its place. Tip 1: Leave window blinds in bathrooms and laundry rooms about 2 inches up from the window ledge instead of resting on the ledge to prevent moisture from being trapped and creating mold on your window ledge and caulking. Tip 2: Leave windows open when showering and doing laundry when you can to help clear out the moisture in the room. Tip 3: Air conditioning is another way to get rid of the moisture in a room. Tip 4: Always have the fan running when doing laundry or showering. This includes kitchen hood fans when boiling, frying or any type of cooking that causes food odours. Tip 5: Never leave clothes in the laundry machines. This creates a musky odour in your appliances. Leaving your washing machine lid open after use helps release trapped moisture.

Porch staging is also an effective way to make your home look more inviting to potential buyers in this new era where showings have become much more limited, however curbside drive bys have increased. You can stage your porch yourself with a little time and creativity. Start with a clear canvas and add a small table with a couple of chairs. Throw in some colourful seat cushions for an added touch! Remember, don't clutter your porch surface and steps. Keeping it simple applies here too! Hang some decorative or working light fixtures. Replace old coach lights with new modern choices. Add potted planters or hanging seasonal flowers. Repaint your front door and include new handles then hang a decorative wreath on the refreshed door for a final touch! A new doormat with a "Welcome" or "Hello" sign feels inviting. Some people even use a barn board or reclaimed wood board with "Welcome" written on it and just lay it vertically on the exterior wall. Cleanliness is important too. Consider resurfacing a cracked porch or levelling crooked steps. If repairs aren't necessary, how about a power washing? Always keep the front porch swept, and front doors and windows clean from dust, pesky cobwebs and nesting materials.
