Welcome to our new patent watch thread! Our team works hard to stay ahead of the curb and keep a constant watch on what is happening in the bike industry. We decided to create this thread to share our findings so you can also have a glimpse of what the future might hold for us! Although gearboxes are not really a new thing, we thought that seeing Fox filing a patent for a drivetrain component, although not typical, is intriguing. Will we see a new major player in the market f...or drivetrain components? Any thoughts on the matter? You like the idea and want to see more post like this one? Today, after ten years of loyal service and boundless devotion towards all his employees, Martin Portelance, co-founder of the company with Érick Auger, is leaving his functions as general manager at Faction Bike Studio. The remaining team is more than ready to take over a healthy company, despite the current pandemic. The time has come for him to move on to new challenges. Its with a heavy heart, that we say goodbye and wish him good luck in his new endeavours. Thank you, M...artin, for making Faction Bike Studio not just a workplace for us, but also place to gather and exchange ideas in the hopes of constantly surpassing ourselves. Congratulations to our colleague Jean Westphal for completing the Quebec Fatbike Championship for a third consecutive year. We cant imagine hed wish for a better welcoming comity, well done Jean!!

A 32 km race going from Dolbeau-Mistassini to Roberval over the frozen surface of the Lac-St-Jean.

Eurobike 2019: our conclusion. No major global brands this year at Eurobike. Even some of the big German brands are missing. This leaves floor space for Asian factory brands and accessories. Of course, e-bikes are at the forefront of the booths more than ever. At Shimano, we see more motors and batteries than conventional components. But way less then Shimano clothing! It used to be an annual gathering of industry insiders but now, it seems less attractive.

Innovations at Eurobike 2019: Without the presence of the most powerful brands, we cant expect too much innovation. Although, the EUROBIKE AWARDS highlight interesting new products. Check the 2019 winners: https://www.eurobike-award.com/ Here are some other interesting products and features.

Trends at Eurobike 2019: - Many cargo bikes for specialized applications. - Trekking e-bikes get knobby tires and extra battery capacity. And slowly, we see more real double suspension bikes in that segment to help cope with their non-suspended mass, thus improving handling and comfort. - IOT (internet of things) connectivity and gamification. Also more of Zwift like systems.

Linkage suspension forks are making a strong comeback this year with companies such as Trust Performance, Structure Cycleworks and Motion Ride. Linkage forks on mountain bikes is nothing new, in the early 1990's there was a first attempt to introduce them to the market, but telescopic forks took over soon after. But after 25 years a lot of things have changed, we now have stronger and lighter materials and shock technology has made tremendous improvement. The main benefit of linkage forks compared to a telescopic forks are: low striction, increased handling stability during compression and less dive during braking. For sure the look is the most controversial aspect of linkage forks. What's your personal perception and do you think that linkage forks are here to stay?

This weekend was the first 2019 UCI Downhill race at Maribor, Slovenia. Faction Bike Studio has worked on three bikes that were raced during the weekend, but unfortunately we cannot tell you which ones. The new mixed wheel sizes rule is opening new opportunities for bike designers like us. Loïc Bruni won the event on a bike using 29 wheel in front and a 27.5 on the rear.
