We are thrilled to announce the cast & team for our final live streamed production of our 20/21 Season THROUGH THE EYES! This radical new interpretation will be directed by award winning artist ahdri zhina mandiela, and star Zorana Sadiq as the Courtier. Registration is officially open so head over to our website to secure a spot for one of the upcoming live digital performances happening April 29 - May 8. Remember, admission to all performances is FREE but registration is ...required. https://www.factorytheatre.ca/shows/through-the-eyes/ ABOUT THE SHOW Through the Eyes is told from the view of an unnamed courtier assigned to serve as Gianlorenzo Bernini’s translator while the great artist sculpts a portrait of King Louis XIV. In an opulent and dangerous world, bristling with cruelty and intrigue, tyrannized by passion and violence, the courtier steers Bernini through a maze of political conspiracies and consoles him through his many disputes with the impetuous and wilful King. Inspired by modern Influencer culture and using the lens of social media, mediating technology, and curated feeds, this contemporary re-interpretation of a Classic Canadian play invites audiences into a world of 21st Century Baroque intrigue where the stakes are high and self-presentation is everything. THROUGH THE EYES will be performed for 6 nights April 29, 30 and May 1, 6, 7, and 8th @ 7:30PM EST. Each show is live and will be streamed to registered audience members watching from home via our website. We started out 2020 in our Mainspace with the World Premiere of Marjorie Chan’s Lady Sunrise to pivoting and presenting Daniel MacIvor’s House: The Isolation Version, Kat Sandler’s The Coalition, and David Yee’s acts of faith online - it goes without saying, but 2020 has been quite the year! But through all the ups and downs, we had the amazing support of our audiences, supporters, artists & creators to get us through it. From everyone here at Factory, we wish you a joyous h...oliday season and peace & cheer in the (hopefully better) New Year. We look forward to being able to return to presenting theatre on our stages once it is safe to do so In the meantime, check out our website to see the digital programming we have coming your way in the first half of 2021: https://www.factorytheatre.ca/whats-on/2020-21-season/ Please note that Factory’s Box Office and Admin Office will be closed for the holidays from Wednesday December 23 - Friday January 1. During this time staff will not be reachable by phone or via email. We will promptly reply to any inquiries when we reopen on Monday January 4. . . "Under the leadership of Nina Lee Aquino, Factory boldly explored the possibilities of virtual theatre. First came a one-night live-streamed performance of Daniel MacIvor’s solo play House, starring Kevin Hanchard from his own home...Then, Aquino announced a full season of live virtual theatre, beginning with a two-week run of David Yee’s acts of faith, which was so effectively done it made us feel like we were watching actor Natasha Mumba in the theatre." - NOW Magazine Wow wow wow - thank you to everyone who joined us for our adventure into live streamed theatre this year and thank you to NOW Magazine for including us in this amazing list. Theatre sure looked different this year, but we're honoured to be in such great company - can't wait to share more of our work in the New Year!

Factory is thrilled to announce its bold new vision for the future of new work development, THE BEDROCK CREATORS’ INITIATIVE, beginning this 20/21 season & being launched with leading support from the Lindy Green Family Charitable Foundation. THE BEDROCK CREATORS’ INITIATIVE is designed to address the disconnect between developing new work and producing it. The approach of this new initiative allows Factory to make a deeper and more meaningful investment in carefully selecte...d projects, paying playwrights more for their work, and offering multiple workshops with a clear trajectory and commitment to produce the work. Playwrights Eva Barrie, Yolanda Bonnell, Matthew MacKenzie, Coleen Shirin MacPherson, Rachel Mutombo, and Sepehr Reybod will join the team at Factory this season as Bedrock’s first cohort of playwrights in residence. This team of excellent playwrights join an initial company of projects already in development, including new works by Carmen Aguirre, Marie Beath Badian, C.E. Gatchalian, ahdri zhina mandiela, Gary Mok, Colleen Wagner, and David Yee, that will continue workshops next year as well. The Bedrock Initiative affirms Factory's commitment that the best way to support playwrights is to produce their work. Too often in the past, Factory has partnered with playwrights to develop new work only to never have the opportunity to produce it. Moving forward, our commitment to writers is that if we develop your work, it's because we want to produce it - not at some unspecified time in the future, but on a clear timeline and with real support to make it happen. The support of the Lindy Green Family Foundation allows us to pay writers a living wage and ensure that we can support the workshops and creative collaborations that are crucial to the success of any new work. - Nina Lee Aquino, Artistic Director & Matt McGeachy, Company Dramaturg Learn more about THE BEDROCK CREATORS' INITIATIVE here: https://www.factorytheatre.ca//the-bedrock-creators-initi/

I have a message from God... From the African Copperbelt to the back woods of Muskoka, acts of faith tells a story about the power of belief, the disillusionment of youth and the eternal struggle between good and evil. The story follows Faith, a young woman who gets mistaken for a prophet. When a revered religious leader attempts to take advantage of her plight, she begins using her ‘gift’ to right wrongs and punish the wicked. As her spiritual notoriety grows, her own fait...h gradually erodes, driving her away from her home and the church in a quest for justice. Part Passion narrative, part modern retelling of David and Goliath, acts of faith is an action-adventure in the skin of a catechism. Far from home, Faith will come up against the ultimate test of her convictions in a final confrontation between sin and sainthood, morality and godliness.
