16 November 2019: The Akumel Monkey Sanctuary wasn't quite as hands on monkeywise as Rob's photo (top) with the Lacandon boy. They did, however, have some other beasts for us to meet.

15 November 2019: Finally found a temple (2nd tallest in the Mayan world) we could climb at Coba. Apparently someone died falling off El Castillo at Chichen Itza several years ago and they'll be shutting down Coba's temple along with the rest pretty soon. (Glad I only found out about that after our ascent.) Also met some Coati Mundi (pointy cousins of North American raccoons) which I'm pretty sure we can't adopt.

14 November 2019: A moonrise and a sunrise at Akumel Beach, which also had a very nice treehouse and pool.

13 November 2019: Chichen Itza is over run with tourists and local vendors. Still it retains some of the magic that inspired Rob's and my fascination with the Maya world. Hannah and Tiggy get sporty in the pelote court unaware that the losing side might end up sacrificed to the gods in the Sacred Cenote.

12 November 2019: I can't resist visiting the colourful Merida cemetery on the way out of town. Nearly ended up adopting a couple of "street" dachshunds in Dzibilchaltun.

11 November 2019: Celestun Beach for a three hour cruise on the Gulf of Mexico, through the mangroves of the river delta to discover a hidden lagoon full of flamingos.
