20 YEARS AGO TODAY On August 27, 2000 the one and only Louise Liliefeldt performed "Ethel: Bloodline" on the waterfront here in Toronto. The performance was a part of FADO's Public Spaces / Private Places series, curated by Paul Couillard. It was (and remains) all the things that best exemplify a work by Liliefeldt: incredible strength, determination and resilience in conversation with a nearly insurmountable physical task, where image and execution tells of personal and fa...milial history and identity. "A wooden cross angles up out of the grass as the sun hangs low on the horizon. As you approach, you hear a piano playing, and you notice that the surface of the cross is covered in photographs. This is a language, a series of keys to a personal history, but how do you interpret them, and what do they tell you of the figure who clings to the cross?" ~LL For a short time, please enjoy documentation from the performance on FADO's vimeo channel. x, fado from the archives
