Congratulations to Kathryn Nesbitt for being named the Major League Soccer (MLS) Assistant Referee of the Year. The first female official to receive such honours in any major North American pro men's league.

Acclaimed Dutch Referee Charles Corver, has passed today at the age of 84. Some of Charles' career milestones include officiating 4 European Cup Finals, 2 UEFA Cup Finals, and an Intercontinental Cup Final (precursor to FIFA World Club Cup Final). When asked what the most important qualities a referee can possess in order to succeed, Charles found the following five qualities essential:... 1. Profound knowledge of the laws of the game 2. Excellent fitness in order to be able to follow play closely 3. Authority and personality 4. The courage to take unpopular decisions 5. The fortune to see those things that matter "A key thing to remember is not to be arrogant but still enter the field of play in the belief that you’re going to nail this match. You should have confidence in yourself, in your ability. I was never nervous before or during a match. Of course, it is important to radiate confidence in your normal working life as well.
