Weavers see possible patterns for cloth in surprising places. Love how the sunlight, shadows and frost are inspiration for an upcoming blanket warp

Today I wound a warp for two small blankets and then looked up the threading for the loom on a tartan generator. Surprise! The pattern I saw in my head has a name! It is Abercrombie of Wilson’s of Bannockburn. The pattern was given to Sir Ralph Abercrombie in the early 1800s. Amazing.

Some days are like this. Since moving to this beautiful place in Newfoundland I have been inspired to infuse my handwoven creations with the colours and textures that surround us. Noticing on my drives on our road - the birchy woods, in their annual shifting colours I found that the texture and colour of the birch rind in all the seasons called me. So here is my rendition for this time that we get to spend watching the changes occur. This is a shawl, to wrap you in the comfort and ease of the birchy woods in rain. Pics to follow when it is fulled.

‘Thunderstorm’ mohair blend scarves. A couple of weekends ago we had a day of thunderstorms and dark lowering clouds that inspired the warp for these three scarves. Light and warm. Three different weights - the darkest is the heaviest and thickest. $125 each.
