I made this fun, little seating bench over the Christmas break. My grandfather spotted the walnut slab in my shop on one of his recent visits and really wanted me to make a bench for him out of it. It took a while to figure out which way to go with the design, but I'm pretty happy with where I landed. The half-blind dovetails work well to make for a strong joint and look pretty sweet too. I thought through dovetails would be too much visually and might take your eyes away fro...m the figure in the cherry. The mitred corner at the front had me scratching my head for a while, but I'm glad I decided to run with it. Laying it out was a challenge with the live edge and it definitely took some time, but I think a butt joint there would have just looked odd. #fairhurstwoodworks

From slab to platter. This is one of three platters I made from a live edge chunk of white oak. The platter is finished in linseed oil and was then fumed with ammonia to darken the wood. The huge slab of walnut makes a nice backdrop. Unfortunately the walnut is not mine, but was in @thelumbersource shop. I made this at the tail end of 2018 I beleive.... #fairhurstwoodworks

Once I acquired some nice chisels, I wanted to make a chisel rack to keep them protected but also for easy access. The dovetails were unnecessary, but I find them super fun to cut. #fairhurstwoodworks

Looking back at some of the stuff I made last year but never posted and I came across these. I had overheard that my niece liked to play "kitchen" so I decided to make her a small rolling pin and dough cutter for Christmas. I also made a larger matching rolling pin for my sister in law so they could bake together one day. Hopefully these will foster some good memories for the kiddo to look back on. Scroll to the end to see how stinking cute she is. This little one lights up m...y life with so much joy . #fairhurstwoodworks

One of the bowls I never took a picture of, spotted in the wild. My girlfriend sent me this picture when she went to walk her brothers dog one day. Definitely not the greatest picture, but its always cool to see anything I make getting put to good use. Even if it's just a dish for some snacks. This one is Silver Maple that I salvaged due to urban tree removal. ... #fairhurstwoodworks

Felt good to knock out this cedar planter last week. Something I'd wanted to make for a while but never really had the time for. Working from home these days has its perks too I guess... I didn't want any exposed fasteners and dovetails are just fun to cut, so it seemed fitting to use them on the outer rails. I also cut splines in the mitred top frame to keep the joint from opening. It's definitely a huge upgrade from the faded and cracked plastic container the raspberries are in now. @ London, Ontario
